Raycow's right. It could be a 53 Powerglide car motor and be high pressure with that valve cover. Trucks were low pressure until '54 as far as I know.

Yes, it's definitely a 235. Notice how the pushrod cover comes up about even with the top of the block. If you had a 216, the pushrod cover would be taller and the spark plugs would go through it.

With some upgrades, alternator and split exhaust manifold are obvious ones, also looks like the starter has the foor solenoid changed to key or push button too. Nice clean driver. You might think about adding an oil filter, it was a factory option that mounts on the intake manifold or you could get a current aftermarket remote set up. The block should already have the ports with plugs in them.

FYI. I don't think that tape on the shifter will hold it together... better weld the top half to the bottom.
