It's alive!!!

Well I was finally able to take the truck for a spin around the block this afternoon. What a satisfying feeling it was to back it out of the garage under its own power. The engine wiring is only temporary and the fenders, hood, and grill support are not installed but it was still great. The motor runs great, the trans seems to shift fine (you never know with a used trans), the power brakes and steering also worked great. I cut one coil off of the stock '85 front springs and think it is sitting a bit low. I am planning on running a set of 1" drop coils for the front instead. The next step is installing some shocks, pinion shims, and permanent wiring. I want to take it to a local cruise/show on December 12th so that is my deadline.

I struggled with the brakes for a few days and finally figured out that the s10master cylinder could not push enough fluid. I switched it out for a C10 master and now they work perfectly while still using the s10 booster.

Good eye! My heater core is leaking so I had to temporarily bypass it.

Thanks! I will try to get some updated pictures up soon. I have been driving the truck around town a bit and have been working on some minor troubleshooting fine tuning. I had to replace my teflon valve seals with viton seals in order to eliminate some minor leaking that was causing blue smoke on startup. I finally received and installed the new heater core that was backordered. I installed and hooked up some HID conversion headlight housings and a Hi/Lo HID wiring kit. I also installed clear parking lamp lenses with amber bulbs along with center caps and trim rings on the rallye wheels. I plan on fabbing up a new throttle linkage and replacing a faulty oil pressure sending unit tonight. I have an appointment to get the front end aligned on Friday after work and then I plan on taking it for a nice cruise with the wife this weekend. So far I only have about 175 miles on the new Autometer odometer!

I am waiting for a rollpan, tailgate latches, and tailgate linkages to show up from Mar-k. I have already received some Billet Specialties taillights and a lit license plate frame to install with the new rollpan. I also plan on ordering the TCI shift point calibration kit for my 700r4. I am going to install a different spring to raise the light throttle shift points.

I will try to get some pictures up from the cruise we take this weekend.

It is pretty straightforward after you figure out where you want to mount all of the components.

Nice truck!! Great work. Planning on keeping the exterior as-is or are you going to make it nice and shiny?

I plan to throw some color on it eventually. Kind of torn between a dark metallic blue or a seafoam/aqua green. That is okay though because it will be a long time before I need to make a decision. I have a quite a bit of bodywork to do both to repair rust damage and perform some body mods. One of the mods that I am debating is shaving the drip rail that is already rusting away in a few spots. Has anyone perfomed this mod and if so any regrets?

Hey dlisabeth your truck is looking great....Im in San Diego too, Chula Vista to be exact. I saw the rack you made for your bench seat. I just bought a 60/40 bench seat and want to do the same in my 61' apache. How much would you charge me to make a rack, welded and all? I think your 65' has the same floor plan as my 61'. Thanks
