Re: 65 c10 stepside build
Sorry guys I haven't posted lately. Summer School, getting my wisdom teeth pulled, and the constant temperature of over 100 degrees everyday is making it hard for me to motivate myself to get outside and work on the truck. Although, I did do a little bit of sanding the hood last week with 180 grit, so I can re-guidecoat and then wet sand with 400 grit to get it ready to paint... Once I get a little bit more work done I'll post some pictures.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
Hey guys, I appoligize for the huge gap in time from my last post. Here's the update on the truck. I've got it just about ready to prime the whole truck. Most of the body work is done. All that's left is finishing up the bedsides, which has proven to be a pain. I should have it primed in the next week or two and once I do that it will be going to my neighbors shop so we can put the new 18 circuit "painless" wiring harness in . Then I will see if I can get my brothers to help me wet sand everything and hopefully paint it shortly after. I will try to have pictures up monday, so yall see the progress.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
Alright, finally an update for yall. Once again Im sorry for the delay of the updates. I've got quite a bit here to catch yall up on whats been going on this fall. The truck has been up at my old high school shop. I've been working on it every chance I can between work and school.
I finished the body work up, hopefully that is the end of that for a while. The bed was the most work. It was definately used as a farm truck. The bedsides are all dented and pretty messed up. I think I got it all straightened out though. There might be a few small little dings I need to fill after I sand the guide coat on the primer down. That leads me to, the whole truck except for a few small panels is finally completely primed. Also, under the bed rails there was quite a bit of rust from where the guy who I sent the bed to get sand blasted "forgot" to prime after sandblasting. Fortunately, we did have a sand blaster at the high school, but now I remember why I paid someone else to do it. I did get it all done and now it is primed with a polyester primer, just a little bit thicker primer to help smooth out some of the minor imperfections in my body work. The cab was mostly ready to prime. I shaved the side mirrors and had to fix the driver's side rocker. It looked like the truck had been bottomed out right at that rocker. It was pushed up and dented. After several headaches and some changes in ways of pulling the rocker back to normal positioned, it is finally done. Other than that, the rest of the cab was sanding and prepping it for polyurethane primer. Here's all of those tiny dents that were all over the bed that had to be filled Here is the cab before priming. I wish I could have gotten so more detailed pics to show you exactly what I did. Here's the cab after priming. I let one of the guys who was helping me get the truck prepped prime it. I figured everyone would rather shoot then sand, so it was kind of my pay back to him. Also, I was in a time crunch and needed to sand blast the bed as he was priming lol. Finally the truck is back home. This is what it currently looks like in this crazy warm mid-december weather in Texas lol. Next to go in is the new wiring harness, so I can get rid of this mess. I should have that done this winter.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
Thanks, Im getting as much done as I can as the money comes. But lately the money towards the truck isn't coming as fast as I would like it, so progress is a little slow.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
Thanks Laz, I'm actually about to go out to the garage and work on it. I got to get it back to street legal, cause my torque converter just went out on my other car. Untill I get the money fix that I got to drive the truck around. I will try and snap some more pictures as I go. And yes, I was liking the 75 degree weather untill the day after it was like in the 30s and 40s. That's Texas for ya.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
I didn't get everything I wanted done today, but I did get the lights on so I could take it out for some driving. I was hoping to rebuild the carb today for the 230 motor, but nobody has the kit in stock. The earliest it will be here is tomorrow.
I did get some pictures with the grill on there. Also, this one is of the driver's side rocker panel that was pretty beat up here's a close up of the bed rail endcaps after primer

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
Thanks man. I wish I had some updates to show yall. I've been on tour with my band all month so I haven't had a chance to work on the truck. Right now im looking for T-56 transmission, but it might be a little while before I can afford one of those. I'll get some pictures up as soon as I get some more work done.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
Not much of an update, but I'll share anyway. I'm having quite a bit of trouble on getting my truck running smooth. It starts up and runs decent, but when I rev it up it backfires in the exhaust. I'm not sure what the problem is yet. I've been having some trouble with the carb. I think it might be running rich due to the black smoke it is shooting out of the exhaust on the backfires. It idles a little rough and could be misfiring, but I'm not possitive. I adjusted the Idle mixture screw and Idle stop screw and could not get a smooth idle. The plugs and plug wires are fairly new, and I haven't touched anything to mess with the timing. That is why Im thinking it's a carb problem. Im going to pull the plugs to see if they are fouled out. I figured it would be pretty simple to work that carb cause their is not much to it, but it's not being very forgiving unless I'm totally missing out on something. I've ran out of ideas so if yall have any input of what this could be I would love to hear them.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
Faced a similar problem, and it ended up being a vacuum leak. In my case it was the carb base gasket, but check any hoses etc. It popped and crackled pretty bad when we revved it up!

How's your fuel filter and tank? I was having a similar problem until I cleaned out my tank.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
My tank is a brand new fuel cell moved to under the bed. I don't have a fuel filter yet except the one on the fuel input on the carb. I'm going to replace that soon, but you can still blow through it.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
I wish I had some real stuff to share, but due to the weather the truck hasn't gotten much attention. I did pull the carb again, and my dad and I are going to rebuild it one last time because something is still not right. Also, I pulled the plugs and found that the plug closest to the firewall looked like it had been hit with some thing and the side/ground electrode had been bent all up. I don't know what could have caused this, it concerns me there is something in the cylinder that shouldn't be there. This week I should get the plugs and and carb back in the truck and hopefully get it running again. Before the weather came I did do some wet sanding and got most of the cab and front end done. Just need to finish the cab up and block and re-prime the bed and it should be ready for paint. I got my money saved up for a T-56 transmission so right now Im on the hunt for one of those and hopefully I can get the motor and trans in the truck soon

Looks good man. I can't wait to get started on mine when I get back home. I am thinking of just buying new bed sides because mine are pretty beat up too. Along with a new tailgate and front panel

Re: 65 c10 stepside build
Thanks Steve, it's coming along but very slowly. It's not easy for a 19-year-old withouth a decent job to finance a project like this, but somehow I keep finding the money here and there to get to the next step.
Thanks Chapstr, it's always nice to get back to work on the truck. I had to get a new front panel and tailgate also, they were just way too bad. I wish I had the money to get the bedsides but I just had to fix the existing ones.
