Re: Frustrated! trying to get bushings out of control arms

Yes, the part that's crushed is the steering stop. Most of the bagged guys chop the whole thing off and smooth it down. I just did it to my arms this weekend when mocking up my bags.

The issues are that you losing the bump stop should only be an issue if you're going to rub either the LCA on the ground or the tire in the wheel well during a bump. I haven't heard of anything with the steering stop removed. I turned mine lock-to-lock with the wheels on and didn't notice anything rubbing, but it was just sitting still in the garage.

Re: Frustrated! trying to get bushings out of control arms

Hmmm, I'm not sure what I should do. I have a guy that will weld something up for me Wednesday, and Wed only, so I need to figure it out by then. I dont want to cut them off it'll make problems but I'm not sure what to make to fix it or serve the same purpose. Any ideas? Has anyone ever done this, I cant be the only one with crushed ones!? Thanks!

But then what? Do you run no bumpstops or fab up something? What do you recommend for a static dropped truck? and the steering stop?

Re: Frustrated! trying to get bushings out of control arms

I didn't have a steering stop on my '69 and won't on my '66. I will be running '77 control arms (pictured) with the Dropmember crossmeber.

<edit> I drilled out the spot welds (careful not to drill through to the arm) then knocked them off with a hammer. A few minutes with a grinder and wire wheel and you see the results.

Re: Frustrated! trying to get bushings out of control arms

Here's what it looked like after about 20 more minutes with the wheel.

They will look great when I'm all done.

Mine weren't crushed, but they were in the way. I wanted to add a stop that would allow me to roll when aired out. This is what RPL Customs built for me.
