Re: I have 2 67's not sure which one to restore first?

man I know pictures are decieving but it looks like all you need to do is block it out and spray it. is there any rust in that car? I was expecting a rust bucket but it looks good. mind if I ask what one in that condition goes for on the west side of the country? is the truck in this good a condition?

red69ss,
I think I really lucked out with this car. But trust me there is plenty of bodywork to do on this thing. I am going to have it Media Blasted and then start from there. I cant find any filler in this thing and the two major places this thing is rusted is the Floor Pans and around the tail lites. I can buy a complete new floorboard for this thing and I can also buy a replacement panel for the tail lites. This guy I bought it from is getting on his 74 foot sailboat with his wife and not coming back according to him. I paid $4K for this and I have just about two of everything for this car including the Stainless Steel Moldings which are supper hard to find for these cars. The Truck needs rockers, cab corners and some floor work. The Bed is almost perfect and the tailgate needs a little help with some dents. The bottom of the doors are going to need to be reskined so it needs help. Both projects are going to be labor intensive but I am restoring the Truck to sell it and the car is for me.

What you said was not very clear except that your a fan of the 67 Pickup. Here is the thing when I start a resto I Expect it to be rolling out the door in three months as a new Truck. Now this GTO is a whole new chapter in Bodywork (Compound Curves) Curves that Disapear and start again in different places and of course the unforseen rust that will poke its ugly head out when you least expect it. That being said I have made my decision that I will restore the 67 Short Fleet and probably drive it for a couple of years so I can get my enjoyment out of it. Then maybe Donate it to my Son In Law who is probably heading to afganistan the end of this year. I have restored a 64 Chevy Short Fleet for one of my Sons and now am finishing a 69 Long Fleet for my Oldest Son. I have learned a whole new respect for my Sons and their tallents and patients in restoring these old trucks. Not to mention just the fact that I get to spend time with them. Dont get me wrong, I love these old trucks but I Love the time I get to spend with my sons doing them more.

great deal on the car you stole it! if your building the truck to sell do it first then you'll have more money to spend on the gto and as you already know pontiacs are expensive to build.

I clicked on your Avitar and saw your trucks, you have some great looking trucks. What is the one in the garage?

The Z isn't a ralley sport originally and had the solid bumper on it. The friend I bought it from put the split bumper on it without changing the rest of the parts to be a RS. That left the hood release sticking out of the grill about 3 inches over the tag. It was cheaper to change the bumper back than to buy the rest of the RS front parts.
On the GTO, I thought that it was a mistake about the white top being painted and not vinyl but when I researched it, it was a painted top. I talked to a pontiac buddy of mine and he told me that there were a few that came out with painted tops but not many. Made me wish I had kept it even more.
Thanks on the trucks, I sold the '68 K20 to buy the Z28. The one in the garage is a '71 LWB project that I recently gave my 14 year old son. A father / son project. It will get the 330 h.p. 350 crate motor that is in my ochre/white K10, the K10 will get the LT1 out of my Z and the Z will get the 427, M22 & Currie 12 bolt in it this winter. It's going to be a busy winter.

Here are pics of before with the split bumper and after with the solid bumper. You can't see the hood release that good but it didn't look good in my opinion sticking out.

Thats a great looking Camero. It looks great with the split or the Full bumper. That thing with the painted top must have made that one rare GTO. Glad to hear that your going to do a project with your Son because there are no better times than Dads and Sons working on Old Trucks. The engine swap thing got me laughing. If I were to come and visit could you accidentally swap one of those engines in one of my rigs?LOL I would take the LT1!

Re: I have 2 67's not sure which one to restore first?

Thanks JR, here is a web site that has the color codes with the optional top paint code. http://ultimategto.com/cgi-bin/stats...7&f1=clrmatrix The project truck was originally going to be a "Yenko 427 ST" before I got the Camaro, then I decided to give him the truck and he doesn't need 550 h.p. so that motor is going in the Camaro. The LT1 is right around 425 h.p., thats still to much for the kid so he gets the lowest h.p. rated one I have left. lol. Maybe if I turned my back or ran in to get us a cold beer, you could swap them real fast. OH WAIT, I have a fridge in the garage.

nice car. looks better with the solid bumper. you would have to replace the whole front clip to make it look like it really had the RS package.

It would take the upper and lower pieces of the nose (fenders would still work), the urethane nose extension the RS marker lights and the grill. That was around $450.00 when the front bumper was $127.00 if I remember correctly. It's been a few years since I added it all up. I don't mean to high jack your thread JR. Lets talk Goats. lol.

Re: I have 2 67's not sure which one to restore first?

I noticed when I opened the Convertible top Manually that a very important peice is missing. The stainless steel molding that goes at the top of the window is missing. I went back out to the guys house where I bought the car but being that he has about 3000 peices of molding setting around in total CAOS I cant see myself finding it. I have to take a friend of mine that has been restoring these GTO's for the last 30 years because knowing him he will walk through and find everything I missed in 15 minutes. I also found what I think are the original doors for the car but I wont know until I get my friend to look at them. I did a little number tracing and found out this car was White with a Black Top and Black Interior. Cant see myself painting it back to original so I think I am either going with dark blue metalic or black with a black top and a white interior Or Parchment. Hijack away. Any car talk to me is good stuff.
