Would buying a rebuilt carb be out of thev question? It might come with the choke bracket that's missing, new springs etc.

Re: 1bbl Rochester... fustrated need help.

OK I PUT THE CARB BACK TOGETHER... MY DELEMA NOW IS THE RIGHT AIR AND GAS MIXTURE IS NOT GETTING INTO THE CARB. ITS TO MUCH AIR NOT ENOUGH GAS.... THE TRUCK IS BACKFIRING AND WONT GO OVER 20MPH WHEN MY FOOT IS ON THE FLOOR.

ANYWAY THE THROTTLE LINKAGE WAS A JOKE TOO. I TRIED TO FIX IT BEST I COULD.

MY BRAIN HURTS....

Re: 1bbl Rochester... fustrated need help.

Guess I shoulda put the linkage in your care package too. Looks like another small package coming your way. Then you can hook it up right.
Backfiring could be caused by retarded timing too. I run an Hei with 12 degrees btdc. Try more timing.

Re: 1bbl Rochester... fustrated need help.

i had done the usual stuff, just like u and I was still getting a popping under load in the exhaust. I adjusted the points again and reset the timing and it is better, but I think I'll go with the HEI and then see how she runs. I also have to adjust the rockers. Slight tapping noise under the valve covers. The points gap is 0.016-0.019 i believe and the timing ended up on mine being 4 advanced.

Re: 1bbl Rochester... fustrated need help.

Exactly on the timing. I have that tapping noise too, so I'll look into that. Right now I have to feather the gas pedal so it doesnt stall in 1st gear. I dont even have the air cleaner on the carb right now because it was pressing the choke linkage down and causing the truck to blow out black smoke. I need a new choke cable to, I found the one on there is too short. Little by little I guess.

Re: 1bbl Rochester... fustrated need help.

U gotta love these old trucks. I'm pretty sure when the rebuilt carb goes on it will make a huge difference. How is ur exhaust/intake manifold? Any leaks? Coz now is the time to plan that job, if u are taking off the carb etc.

Re: 1bbl Rochester... fustrated need help.

Yeah Ive been planning that. I wanted to split the exhaust so that may happen, it may not. depending on how much time I have. Its a daily driver so? But I already bought the gasket for it so Im good there.

Re: 1bbl Rochester... fustrated need help.

Wow!!! Just a week to get there. Glad we could brighten your day. Of course ya know the warranty is up. JK. Go slow. Take your time installing it. Some tips for you.
When you pull the old carb off stick a rag in the manifold. Keeps crap outta there. Don't forget to pull it back out.
Bolt the new carb down evenly. Snug and then a bit more side to side till it's tight.
I included the stud and wing nut for your air cleaner. Stud screws into the hole on top.
Looks like your choke cable will be long enough. If not you can peel a little of the coating off and remove a bit of the outer sheath. Wire cutters work.
I looked at your pics. The clip that holds the threaded rod onto the swivel bracket at the firewall could be used on the short rod on the carb. Just see how it hooks on and install the same on the other rod. If you don't have an extra clip you could drill a hole through the threaded rod where you take the clip from it and hold it on with a cotter key.
Cover the top of the carb with a rag when working around the top. You don't want any foreign objects falling in. I've had the pleasure of tearing things apart to find a lost nut nestled up beside a valve before.
Any questions. Ask away.

Get a skip white dizzy on ebay. I saw 69 bucks yesterday. His have a better curve in them. You could run 10 to 12 degrees advanced no problem. I'm running 12 on mine.
Best mod I made for a six.
