Re: Cheapest bed floor options?
Yep treated, but they are old. Removed them from deck we just replaced boards on. Think I may use the tung oil anyway.

Re: Cheapest bed floor options?
Reusing boards from the deck - smart thinking. If you do go Tung, be sure to get 'pure tung oil' not a tung oil finish. The two are often confused.
Ya know, it used to be common practice to soak the boards in used motor oil. More for utilitarian purposes obviously.

Re: Cheapest bed floor options?
I'm pretty sure my longbed has a ply floor, it'll get replaced when I eventually do a full resto.

Re: Cheapest bed floor options?
I bought some red wood stain today at walmart and painted 2 coats on the boards. I would probably go with something not quiet as dark if you buy new decking boards. Since mine are older and do not look as great I wanted something to really cover them well. Here is what they look like. As I said I will prob cut one more board and leave no gaps. Also they are still not mounted just laying in truck.

Re: Cheapest bed floor options?
I've done similar thing with my fleetside. My bed floor is rusted pretty bad w/ some small holes and part of the floor has a weak spot when you walk on it. I used treated 1 x 6's, put on 2 coats of deck and siding stain tinted black and screwed them down over the old floor. I used no strips and left a gap between them so water can run out. It is alot sturdier now and I dont have to worry bout anything falling thru the floor now lol. This is just a temporary fix till I can find another bed or save up the money for a new floor.

Re: Cheapest bed floor options?
A lot of good low budget ideas for wooden floors.
I am going to have to replace the floors in both of my steppers and will remember the posts I have seen here. Thank you.

Re: Cheapest bed floor options?
Mine ended up costing me 10.50 plus tax. Like I said I used old deck boards from the deck we just replaced. I bought a gallon of stain at Walmart for 7.00 and the brush was 3.50. A few more dollars for screws to mount it and I will be under 20.00 with a usable bed. I am actually selling this truck and just wanted it to look better in back instead of a hole when a prospective buyer come to see it.

Re: Cheapest bed floor options?
That's pretty cheap LOL. I bought some wood from a local sawmill the other day that I plan on using.
I bought enough wood (southern yellow pine) to do 1.5 SWB fleetsides for $20.00, but it's not sanded/planed etc. I'd post a pic, but it would only be of the wood stacked up on the floor. |
