Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
Ok, I understand you're asking for everyone's opinion, but what really matters is who cares what WE think. What really matters is what looks good to you. Everyone has their own uniqueness and it shows in our trucks. If they all looked alike it would'nt be as much fun to look at them. As for me I think your truck looks great with or without cowl, roof looks good as is and would look good white, it looks great with the wheels you have and would look good with many other styles as well. The only thing I think is throwing off the look is black out in front and white letters in back. But as with everyone else on here that's MY opinion, and if you decide to put pink letters out I would be happy for you, because you are enjoying your truck.
BTW we do want pictures if you change something. |

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
I don't care for the street racer look, but if that's what you like update it with some M/T 18/20's....That would rock it.

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
those rims are kind of what i'm thinking. I do show the truck, so i think a 18 up front with some 20's on the rear would look killer. Then when i go to the track, i can bolt on my other rims. I like the look of hart rods rims. Also, i have a 2.5" drop front spindles and 4" drop springs on the rear...

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
I think it's not so much the cowl on the hood, but how tall it is. I think putting RWL on the front would help a lot. I also think the trailer wheels look better than the ones on your truck.
Nice looking truck though - you're not far off the mark.

Raised While Letter = RWL
Sorry, tire lingo. WW = White Wall, BW is Black Wall.

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
rwl=Raised White Letters
Have you "strung" the truck lately? It looks from the pics like the right front wheel is further back in the wheelwell than the left front, while the rears are both equal. My personal preference is equal height wheels and tires between 28"-30" with these trucks, but I do encourage owners to apply their own favorite look because in the ned it has to reflect your lifestyle and personality.

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
IMO the cowl is too tall and makes the truck look nose heavy. Maybe go shorter and, as was already suggested, paint the top white. Like your truck though, mine will be the same color

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
Besides the truck looking better in MY driveway.....Like others have said. I'm not a cowl hood fan on 69-72's.....think they look more at home on 67-68. Think the truck would look better a little lower and maybe 17's or 18's on it with enough tire on it to fill up the wheelwells. That all said....you have kind of a purpose built truck and I'm not sure what kind of negative impact those mods would have on that. It's a great looking truck no matter what though!

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
I personally like the cowl, it looks good with and without it, IMO... First thing I notice is how much flat aluminum I see in the rims, need something closer to a TT/Boyd/Vintec so it doesnt look like a big aluminum smoothie rim, I like the 16" rims size though, Im going with either 16" or 17" rims on my truck, need to have some meat on them tires, we are talking about 60's truck, not a new BMW here...

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
I would say put weld draglites on it (like Hart Rod ) Black wall tires and it would be perfect .. It's already a beautifull truck !! I would also stick to a 15'' wheel I think they look better on our trucks.. I would go with like a 15x12 rear and a 15x6 front .. Of course this is just my 2 cents. I think your truck looks great as is ..

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
Biggest issue with this truck......definitely should be in my driveway, and maybe equal size tires without the white lettering showing, I hate cleaning. Nice Truck, I personally like it without the white roof, there is a black and white shorty on here with the roof black to match the majority body color, I think it's a subtle custom touch and looks great. JMO though everyone's different

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
Quote:
If you run strings diagonally from right front to left rear and then from points that should be the same on left front and right rear, the strings should both measure the same length and touch each other in the center. Because of obstacles in the way (like the tranny) you gotta use your judgment on where to pull the strings to...but I'd check the frame as best as possible first. If the frame is straight, then check again to points on the front suspension. You may discover the crossmember is just further back on a straight frame. If the crossmember is straight then it could be loose or worn suspension parts, like a worn upper control arm shaft. Once you are sure the parts are not the problem, check plain old alignment settings...an improper caster setting could account for a half inch (and is related to suspension part wear). Don't panic about how serious this all sounds. The strings are the cheapest way to check it all, rather than getting an alignment first on what may be something else.

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
One alternative, if you can't find a good place to run strings from, is to drop a plumb line (a heavy nut tied to a string will do fine) to the ground from each of the four locations you choose and measure from marks on the ground. The drawback with this option is you lose one part of the "checks and balances" in the first method--any strings run diagonally on the ground will cross even if they wouldn't when run off the frame. Still, this is for the street. You will still be bale to determine if the diagonal lines are the same lengths.
Visually, the truck looked more than a half inch off. The remainder may be from the body being further forward on the right than on the left. That could come from body, cab & core support bushings; or just a bit of shifting in the holes for those bushings. Frankly, it doesn't sound like a "STOP THE WORLD" catastrophe right now (unless you have odd tire wear patterns), just something to look forward to.

Re: what do you guys think would make my truck look better?
First let me say that regardless, you have a beautiful truck.
IMHO you need to pick a theme and stay focused. If you keep the cowl hood then you need to stick with big and littles and pick era correct wheels, like aluminum slots, Torque Thrusts or Cragars. If you don't keep the cowl hood then rallies would look good. Last edited by lakeroadster; 08-19-2010 at 08:51 AM. |
