Soon. Today I bought patch panels for my cab at the Texas Goodguys Show. I'll update as I make progress. In the meantime, here are some pics.

Man if my 76 was in that good a shape, I'd be restoring it. I always liked this body style best. A friend in HS had a 71-72 light green stepside that he had put a 454 in, and 15" wire rims. Always loved that truck.

Thanks, each and everyone, for the positive comments. The garage was something I planned for over a year before we even started building. I'll post up more pictures after the truck is done (hopefully just a few more weeks) and the inherent mess is gone.

And as for the truck, I've made some progress...pics are incoming!

Re: The Rotten Mule (AKA: 'Mulo Podrido')

Ok, I originally named this truck Mulo Podrido (Rotten Mule) but I'm seriously considering renaming her 'Easy Susan'. I've worked on several vintage vehicles over the years and every single project fought me tooth and nail along the way. Fasteners that refused to un-fasten, parts that broke, parts that caused parts of me to break, busted and scraped knuckles, etc. With this truck, however, I'm completely amazed with how easy everything comes apart. Every nut, bolt, and rivet has come right off...it's almost as if she knows what I want and is letting me have my way.

Re: The Rotten Mule (AKA: 'Mulo Podrido')

Plans change. I originally installed a blazer tank but wasn't happy with where the fuel filler exited the tank. I was either going to have to cut a few holes in the bed (which I didn't really want to do) or think of something else. Then I saw 67slider's thread about installing a '69 Camaro tank. (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=423035) The Camaro tank solves the fuel filler problem all together and the sender matches our truck gauge, so I ordered one from Tamraz and sold the blazer tank. Between selling both the original tank and the blazer tank, the Camaro tank was practically free.

I didn't take pictures of the install (67slider did a very good job of documenting it in his thread) but it's a very straight forward process.

I also installed the CPP bolt in notch kit. No pics of the install, sorry, it went together just like all the others on here. I may go back and weld it in, haven't decided.

Re: The Rotten Mule (AKA: 'Mulo Podrido')

I attended the Texas Goodguys show this past weekend and in addition to checking out some really cool trucks I was able to buy all of the sheet metal I need for the cab repairs. I bought them from H & H out of Arkansas.

That's a lot of metal, but the cab really isn't in that bad of shape. Most of the replacement panels will be trimmed a ton before installing them.

Last night I started getting the cab ready for the impending repairs. I removed the cowl and left fender first.

Then the door.

Re: The Rotten Mule (AKA: 'Mulo Podrido')

Rust is a funny thing. When I bought the patch pieces I thought I would go ahead and get the A pillar pieces even though I wasn't sure I would need them. However, H & H didn't have any in the trailer at the Goodguys show, so those were the only pieces I didn't buy. As bad as the rust was on the driver's side, I was worried what I would find after removing the fender and door....well you can imagine my surprise when I set them aside and found this:

Beautiful, huh? But lurking just around the corner...

Re: The Rotten Mule (AKA: 'Mulo Podrido')

The next step is to brace the cab before cutting out all of the rusty bits. I'm currently waiting on UPS to drop off a 30amp extension cord for my welder. In the meantime I am marking all of the spot welds and taking measurements.

Re: The Rotten Mule (AKA: 'Mulo Podrido')

Looking good. Do you have a link for H&H? How thick is the rocker metal? I see that you got the 338's from Boss. What back spacing did you get for the fronts? What size tires are you running front and back?

David

Nice progress, the tank install looks good. I have been trying to decide which tank to use, but I have been worried that it will hang to low.

Thank you. And yes, one can wish...I've been wishing for a garage like this for 30 years and was finally fortunate enough to make it happen. Good luck with yours!

Good people to deal with. Rockers are 18ga. Offset is 14mm so backspacing would be about 5.25". Tire sizes are 255/40/20 front and 275/45/20 rear. That's a 1.7" difference in height (28 inch diameter for the front vs. a 29.7" diameter in the rear) but I wanted the tires to help set the stance.

Believe me, I want to but I'm waiting on the welder extension cord to show up. I don't want to start cutting until I have the cab braced.

No problem. Make sure you post up some pics of your garage when you get it done.

The Camaro tank doesn't sit much lower than the blazer tank. Even with a 6" static drop in the rear the Camaro tank is still 13.5" from the ground at it's lowest point. I'm not skeered!

Thank you, we're young with two kids but have steadily knocked off one major project per year in the house, next year is the garage plans! Planning on a 24x32x16ft wall with a 20x32 lean to on the front side (because I'll never be able to fit/park a driver in the garage, I know this already! Should be pretty decent with a 2/3 loft and our 20x24 garage under the house for storage. It's just too short for my toys to fit. Keep up the good work on your project!
