If I had the stomach for another dually (which I surely don't) I would be all over that bed and the rear axle when it comes out. That is a solid deal. I mean heck; where else can you find old parts like that in that kind of shape!!

Even better set up as mentioned above but as a CCDWSB. I think those fenders would look awesome bolted on a short fleet bed and skirting a set of big rollers .They would look equally nice dropped over those beautiful Alcoas with some lowerprofile rubber .How many Crew cab short bed duallys do you see?And you have such a great start on one.

One of my 3 dream trucks includes a shorty dually. I have the crew cab dually out back but no shorty. But mine would stay stock or become a 6x6 with a common rail cummins!!

Ken, it is kind of a running joke around here about the squirrels. Nobody is ever happy to come to a body shop, and the heat makes people lose their minds. I have a statue of a squirrel holding a leaf on my desk that I put money in to appease the squirrel gods to get them to leave me alone. I must be short on money this year as this summer has been nuts (pun intended).

I thought about this, too. I like the idea of another phantom body style, but the truth is I really don't like driving a dually. It's kind of a PITA, especially the way people drive in the city. I really enjoyed my '79, but needed an extra seat for teh midget, as Mama wouldn't let her ride in the front seat.

I agree about the Cummins. I will be lucky just to get an overdrive in this one. I priced out a 4L80E and a controller. It looks like something else will have to occur.

I went by and saw Jon's truck in person yesterday and guys let me tell you the pictures does not justify the cleanliness of this truck, this thing is nice even underneath.

I didn't realize you purchased a dually.... I was thinking you landed a clean CC single wheel 'plus size' truck & planned to do the short bed swap. You'll need to scratch some of the info from my PM since 3500's have different frame rails, spring hangers, & misc other dually related parts. Most stuff should still easily swap out though.....

You need both the front and rear leaf spring hangers. Does your truck have the shocks inboard of the frame rails? If so you will need to relocate the shock mounts on the 1/2 ton diff. You can re-use the upper arms on the front but I believe you need the upper balljoint for a half ton. Oh and you will probably have to use the half ton steering components.

It really does sound like a lot of work. I wonder if I would save a lot of heartache and just splice in the rear half of the SWB frame, since the frame will be getting cut anyhow. I actually walked around the truck this morning thinking about just doing a flip kit and leaving it 1 ton, but that would be too easy. I think I probably need some kind of slight aggrivation in my life, so if this is it, that can't be too bad.

Hey Jon,
Another option is to keep the dually hangers and just move the leaf spring perches on the half ton axle. I bought a pair of leaf perches from Atwoods for @$10. That would save time....
That would also give you more room to tuck some meaty tires in the back.
