Re: 54 C4 Build
Did you end up going with progressive, flat out or home made for the rear?

Re: 54 C4 Build
It's all going to be home made. The Progressive clip is way too much for me and I can't see spending around 800 bucks for some simple brackets. I've got more time than money and plenty of resources so we'll figure it all out.

Made these bracket to mount the IRS this week. Made from 3/16 cold rolled plate. Then did the holes and the notch on the mill.

Re: 54 C4 Build
I really like the install of C4 suspension you are doing. I would love to have a C4 rear in my flatbed truck, but don't know if it will work since mine is a 3/4 ton frame. Progressive only offered an install kit for 1/2 ton. Maybe you could tell me is there a difference between 3/4 and 1/2 ton chevy frames.

Re: 54 C4 Build
My buddy Mark and I got a little more done today. We were able to get the mounting brackets tacked in place. I ordered shocks for the rear on Thursday and I should see them on Wednesday. Get those set up,the pinon mounted and the four bar mounted and I'll have a roller. Also put some time in getting the cab ready to take off the old frame, looks like a can a worms. Will post pics as I go along. Oh and thanks for all the positive comments, I'm having a blast doing this build.

Re: 54 C4 Build
Thanks Bruce, really your Belair and I saw your wife's truck on here earlier.I like your lower shock mounts on the rear. Did you make those or did they come from Progressive or Flatout? I can't wait to get this beast on the road. Thanks Dean

Re: 54 C4 Build
Frame looks very level.
Wonder how it will sit with the engine up front? Starting to think, if I get the flat out rear kit, will the rear be way too high? |

Re: 54 C4 Build
Found a picture of flat out front and rear. Not quite the same shot since you have fenders up front.
http://s1112.photobucket.com/albums/...t=IMG_1928.jpg Your front looks a lot lower than his? Last edited by duwem; 05-23-2011 at 11:37 AM. |

Re: 54 C4 Build
Thanks duwem, the rear is set up about a 1 1/2 higher. And if you use the Flatout rear kit without some sort of notch it could be a bit tall. Thats the why Progressive make a clip for the 54. The frame is almost flat at the rear. The front is set up at ride height with mock shocks. With the coilovers it sets about a 1 1/2 higher without the engine, same in the rear. I'll post some pics of the front tomorrow of the front clip so you can see what it looks like with the T-bird rack.
