Re: Wife drivers?

My wife says she hates my current truck but she loved to drive the 77 1 ton 4x4 crew cab we used to have. Said those "Hondas" didn't try to beat her to parking spots at the grocery store when when she drove it.

My 71 takes both hands to start and she doesn't like that even though it is an automatic with power steering.

She's only driven it twice. She's terrified of it.

Re: Wife drivers?

The wife enjoys my truck. She wants her own which she wants a 68 short fleet. I guess that will be another project.
Here she is in my truck.

Re: Wife drivers?

My Wife does not drive my 72 2wd suburban, says it is to low. She drivers "her " lifted 72 blazer a lot. She got it in her head a few years ago, that she wanted a convertible car. We bought an 03 mustang. She put 2600 miles on it in 3 years. We sold it.

Pat drives the White '67 when she has to and when we go on trips with it. It drives really good so she doesn't mind. She would rather drive the '57 Ford though... Traitor...

Re: Wife drivers?

Every time i think about letting the wife drive my truck....i ride with her in her mini van......that usually changes my mind pretty quick!! Of course, she criticizes my driving as well. All that being said, she sure likes to go for a ride and i get a few more looks when shes on board!

Re: Wife drivers?

Sorry guys, my wife isn't allowed to touch any of my toys. She knows I'm not selfish with anything else I own. It's just she understands and respects how passionate I am about my classics. And I'm that way because they are hard to find and replace if anything happens to them. And the most important one...the money I've invested into them. Sorry!!

Re: Wife drivers?

She has a set of keys to it on her key ring, but has never driven it more than 100 yards. She's worried that she will break/wreck/ruin something and that I will hate her for it. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It's only a truck. I drive it daily and it will need redoing again in the future.

Re: Wife drivers?

My wife doesn't even like to RIDE in my truck, let alone drive it. It was originally a 3OTT and it she would drive it now and then, but it would get stuck in gear. So i put an auto-matic in it to make it easier for her to drive, and now she won't do it. Women...can't live with 'em, can't shoot em...

Re: Wife drivers?

My first 67-72 was a 72 with a 292 and 3spd. My wife learned how to drive it and then I learned how to replace a clutch! It was the one that got away. Not my wife, the truck!

Re: Wife drivers?

When we were first married 15 years ago my wife and I built a 70 C/10 short stepside. We ended up selling it to help with building our first house. Now all these years later we just recently purchased a 71 Cheyenne and we felt like we were back in high school driving around in it with her sitting right next to me on the bench. We wait till our girls are gone and just go cruise the backroads in it at night.

We will soon be tearing it down and doing a frame off on it (she will definitely drive it) but in the mean time we're just acting like a couple of teenagers (just don't tell my teenagers).

We also have a street legal rockcrawler that my wife just hops in from time to time just to go pick up our girls or something. Let me tell you it's also pretty hot to see that.

Re: Wife drivers?

My wife will drive either one of my 67s (in my avatar), but would rather drive the 1/2 ton with ram assisted steering than the 3/4 ton with manual steering.

Re: Wife drivers?

My wife drove Old Yeller exactly once. We were married in 1997, and I insisted she needed to try to drive Old Yeller. She was afraid to partly because Old yeller is my baby. And she was mainly afraid to drive it because of the manual tranny, but I told her she could learn to do it. When we got to the highway, she pulled out ahead of a semi that was way, way behind us but she let the clutch out too quick so we were lurching and stumbling forward. I could tell it was going to die if it didn't get some gas soon and since the semi-truck was getting closer I yelled, "Get on it." Of course I knew what was going to happen, the engine woke right up and she fried the rear tires while we took off. I was still LMAO when she pulled over a 1/4 mi later and told me to drive it. She's never driven it since.

Re: Wife drivers?

My wife says my truck rides too rough but she has driven it a few times for me so I can see how it looks going down the road and I have sen acouple of head snaps from other drivers when they see a mid-aged blond driving a pink and white truck.

Re: Wife drivers?

My wife had to drive my 72 GMC last week after her Volvo took a dump. And she flat out refuses to drive my 62 caddy. First thing she asked is what are all the special instructions I have to know to drive it...I started laughing. She called me 30 min's later and when she turned off the truck the ignition cylinder came out with the key! Never happened to me.
