Re: Papa's truck build up
Well, I said I was done but got some long tube headers and flowmaster mufflers tonight. Gonna try and get them on in the next few weeks to clear up an exhaust leak... So, some ram horns will b available after that...

Re: Papa's truck build up
Forget the long tubes. Kept the ram horns and removed the flapper valve on the pass side ( that has been a huge PITA). gonna get it back out tomorrow for a bit to check the alternator. I'll post updates. Thanks again!!

Re: Papa's truck build up
Ok, so being the cheapskate I am, I have come up w a $14 stereo for the old truck.... I have never wanted a traditional head unit bc I don't like the new look in the old truck. But, I need some tunes, the 24" glasspacks r quieter than I remembered. So, here is my answer. $14 computer speakers from Walmart that plug into USB for power and the aux port of my iPod for tunes. I am running the USB into an iPhone charger port and plugging it into the cigarette lighter. Anyways, here's pix. Super easy, zip tied to existing holes and decent clarity and no headunit or speakers to buy...
Stupid Photobucket makes it tough to copy URL on my phone. I'll post pix in the am. Also, anybody know the wiring schematics of the heater control knob? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Papa's truck build up
Well, after fighting the factory heater switch and trying to make the wiper switch work, I decided to just mount a toggle switch for the heater control... I'll figure out something later w a 3 position setup. Up next is getting the holes drilled in the firewall and getting the hoses run, maybe by the end of the week. While I have the coolant drained I'm gonna change the thermostat and housing so I can run my temp sensor in the manifold.
More updates soon. I think an electric fan is next so I can try my hand at fabbing a fan shroud. Posted via Mobile Device

Here's the heater, in the glove box!! It's just a small Summit unit we bought a long time ago for another project. And, I got a CD player and 4 speakers for Christmas so they will be going in over the next few weeks. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Papa's truck build up
Drove it over to my grandpas tonight for dinner. After eating, him and I went driving for ab 20 minutes. It's been 13 years since he has been in the truck so that was really cool! Getting a 1500 stall torque converter around the 10th so that shd help the drive quality alot from the 3k stall in it now...

Re: Papa's truck build up
Just rattle can - Rustoleum black night metallic. There r ab 3 layers of flat black under it to help it cover. Here is a better pic of the contrast.
Thanks ab the tat. Posted via Mobile Device |

Well, the console was begging for something better... So I covered it in an old leather jacket my brother had. I like it but it's made me move the seat recovering up the list... Oh well, here's the pix...

Re: Papa's truck build up
That is a cool idea with the old jacket... I like your roof paint job too. Keep it up, it looks like it would be a blast to drive and I sure miss driving mine that I used to have that was flat black...

Re: Papa's truck build up
Been a while since I turned a wrench on the old truck but got back to it today. Nothing like a deadline to get u motivated... Power Tour in a month!!!
Today I got the seat and seat belts mounted, painted my third Nissan Titan wheel, and picked up my shocks for the front. Got the shocks in place and ready, just waiting on the bolts for the lower mount (of course I can't find the old ones...) Maybe some time next week I can pick up the 4th wheel.... Re: Papa's truck build up
Drove it to work today. Fired right off this morning and tonight! Gonna run it on the interstate in the morning to see how it fairs at 60+ mph. It's been 15 years since it's been faster than 45...

Replaced the vac advance canister and got to messing w the distributor and saw that my weights and springs would not spring back once opened. Could this be my issue w ith a break up and pinging at 3k rpm and will new springs make it right?
