Re: Hauling a crew cab

If you were closer to me, I would let you use the towbar setup I have. It worked really well for me. We used a 2005 Chevy 2500HD crew cab to tow my truck, but a Suburban would probably weigh about the same. The weight distribution on Suburban is better for towing anyway, with more weight on the rear axle due to configuration of vehicle. Good luck with the truck and keep us updated on it.

For sure, I have pulled two or three of these trucks on an 16+2 and it did fine.

I pulled a crew cab dually on my 18ft trailer, it is tight, but it worked just fine.

Re: Hauling a crew cab

Well - I decided against the hauling myself after weighing some options and ended up placing an ad on uship.com.

I figured no less that 4 tanks of fuel plus no less than 12 hours of time plus having to borrow a truck and trailer, so for $400 it was delivered to my door this AM as 5:45 AM.

It was dark when I left for work but will get some better picks tonight.

I emailed the site manager for information but these pics are really all I had to go off of as it's nearly 6 hours from me. Said the tranny and T/C with shafts were still installed. Need to ask about keys to unlock the column.

You can make out that the firewall is blue so may have been a former USAF truck a Fire Dept got a hold of and repainted.
You can change the key and tumbler set on these things for 12 bucks from Autozone.

Re: Hauling a crew cab

That`s like the Holy Grail of Crews, for me at least. A SRW w/a 4L80, one year only combo, the only 1 ton with overdrive. The truck looks real clean to boot, I`d love to find one of those.

Re: Hauling a crew cab

Its not a cherry - remember this gov't surplus.

This was a former USAF truck so probably was used as a Flight Line Crew hauler before the MO Rural Fire District got a hold of it. My base currently uses a Blue Crew Cab Super Duty with the same basic options except now we have A/C in most of them.

Ran all the RPO's...4X,XXX on the clock and the condition makes me think that is correct.

I'm in Illinois, don't know when your buddy got out but wish it was sooner if he was in it until the end

Re: Hauling a crew cab

You definitely want the duramax truck. I use my dads suburban to pull a k10 on my 18ft trailer and every little hill it went into 3rd and used a TON of gas.

I figured that but opted to hire it out to be hauled for $400 on uship.com
