Re: what did you get done 10/3/10 edition

I got a TON done on my '83! My '59 was neglected once again. I put a new set of Heddman Headers on. Dropped it off at the muffler shop and had the new headers tied into a 2.5" dual exhaust with a couple of flowmasters. I replaced the old q-jet with a new edlebrock carb. New MSD cap, rotor and plug wires. New flex-a-lite fan. And a fresh oil change. Pretty productive. I have a 350 getting ready to go to the shop to get vatted, bored .040 over and reassembled with fresh bearings, pistons, oil pump etc. It will be about 10:1 comp. with the new pistons and the new patriot performance heads. Need to pick the cam grind and when its all done it will replace the old 305 thats in there now.

I dug a giant hole, cut a hole in the house foundation, and put in an egress window. It will be our daughters new room when finished.

Did go junkyarding Friday, got a bunch of stuff I needed for the 73, and even got a 78 tach cluster I will be listing to help offset my out of pocket expenses.

Re: what did you get done 10/3/10 edition

Finished levelling the first floor section of the pole barn and moving in in the crushed/ broken concrete. Finish graded the two ouside walls with the pavers complete. moved the fine sand from the driveway to the barn area, broke up and hauled away the concrete that the truck washed onto my driveway gravel pile. Put in bolts to hold down the CDR and intake muffler on the diesel. Gave the new 77 the eveil eye but didn't actually work on it yet. Did i mention the disc brake Caprice rear end and the pile of 455 Buick parts that needed moving? Then went to the inlaw's 60+ anniversary dinner, letting the Advil comfort my back. Ain't so young anymore.....

Re: what did you get done 10/3/10 edition

On Friday evening I put in new plugs and checked my plug wires. Couldn't find my tube of dielectric grease, so I'll have to go back and grease everything tonight after work. I also pulled both door panels, greased the roll channels, and sprayed the window channels with silicone spray. Both of my windows were very difficult to put up before (had to use two hands!). I'm surprised I didn't break my window crank. But now both of them are much smoother and can be cranked pretty easily. Also pulled the front wheels and checked the brake pads. They still look like new, so I'm good for a while.

On Saturday I spent the whole day at the shop sanding my '70 Camaro. Need to get the whole car sanded with 180 grit, then go over it again several more times to get ready for paint.

Re: what did you get done 10/3/10 edition

Saturday I went to a local JY - nothing square body related.
Sunday morning (no more heat) replaced both caliper hoses and bleed brakes on my '75. This turned out to be easier than I thought - flared crowfoot wrench (3/8") on short extension made a quick job of unscrewing hardline from the hose.

Re: what did you get done 10/3/10 edition

Went to EZ pull and got a trailer hitch. Putnam class 5 10,000/14,000 in great shape for $15. Can't beat that. I mounted it with all new grade 8 hardware. The crossbar hangs a little below the bumper, which I don't like, but for $15 I cant really complain. It even had a bracket to relocate the spare tire hanger and the spare fits with the hitch. It's way more hitch than I need, but peace of mind is good. I would have been pushing it with a 5 or 6000 lb hitch.

I found out my reese brake controller is a perfect fit where the ashtray goes.

Just need to get a 7 round plug and it's all ready to tow.

I have a bunch of stuff on order that should show up this week. Sherman repro radiator, belts, hose and tune up parts.

Re: what did you get done 10/3/10 edition

Installed long fuel hose to replace the short vent hoses on the dual tanks. Ran the hoses to the back of the truck and mounted on the cross brace above the spare tire, then reinstalled the vent caps. Also tightened leaking fuel inlet nut. Gas smell all gone now - hope gas mileage improves a little on the BB.

Re: what did you get done 10/3/10 edition

I spent last week thrashing to get the Ride Tech E3 system installed in my 77. I ran in to sensor issues that I just could not get resolved in time. I had to set the system to read bag pressure and focus on detailing the truck. I spent the last two nights before leaving wrapping up the install, and detailing the truck.

Thursday night I hit the road for Ft Worth to be in the Ride Tech booth at the Goodguys show. I made it there at 3:00 am and got a few hours sleep before set up on Friday morning. Despite the long hours and lots of moments of frustration, the effort was worth it.

Here it sits in all its glory at the Ride Tech display.

Re: what did you get done 10/3/10 edition

I tried to modify the '09 silverado middle console seat and didnt go to well. I tried to modify it so it would recline more... yeah, didnt go well.. I think a nut and bolt will be the winning ticke to go back together... if not its 100 bucks for the pivot arm

Mounted the BMW rear view mirror. Its got a led at the bottom for an alarm, 2 buttons for misc stuff (hidden). Waiting to find the same mirror with homelink (why i did this in the first place). Its got 3 programmable buttons for garage doors ... once i fit the modified mirror glass in there, I'll update with pictures.

Painted the outer stripe on my headlight bezels black. Repainted some of the trim screws that had started to rust.
