Re: Project "RACE TRUCK" aka "Last of the spare parts" build

Need a little help... Have a lead on getting a 1988 S-10 T-5 transmission... I am wanting to put it behind a 250 6 cylinder.. We have the bell housing to run a Saginaw...I know that the input shaft is about 9/16" too long on the S-10 T-5,so a spacer will be needed... I would assume that we get the clutch that goes with the 1988 S-10 t-5?

So all that we need to do is use the Saginaw bell housing, 9/16"spacer, and new clutch for the s-10? Are we missing anything?

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!

Race truck needs your help!!!

Re: Project "RACE TRUCK" aka "Last of the spare parts" build

Double check the bell housing you've got, it might fit without the need for a spacer. This is what I understand for the swap..

If you've got a Camaro transmission, the input spline is the right length, you'll just need to get a clutch disc for the Camaro. But the tailshaft is a bit longer and it will put your shifter right at the edge of the bench seat.

If you've got an S10 transmission, the input spline and the collar will need to be trimmed to match the original 3 speed. And the shifter location will work just fine.

You can get and adapter/spacer that will take care of all the input spline/spacer issues for your existing bellhousing, but it seemed kind of pricey for what it was (~$150 or so).

So it seems the 'best' way is to get a camaro transmission which mounts up to the bellhousing, then use an S10 tailshaft so that the shifter location is in the best spot, and you have to do less work on the input end.

I'll try to dig up the other sources of parts for this, as I'm looking to put a T5 in my '67 with an I6 and fuel injection.

Jeez, I just noticed that everyone on this thread is in NE GA... we should get together and hash it out. I could use some motivation to start work on mine again.

We did some special race modifications today to the engine and we should have the transmission strapped to it and drive shaft in by the end of the week.

As far as transporting one locally, stripping it down, getting rid of unecessary parts, removing cab, labeling and bagging parts, checking and replacing steering and suspension components...we can do that type of work all day long. We can budget build or get it ready for you or someone else to go crazy with it.
