Re: My 71 K5
Well talked to new body guy and he is way to expensive for my liking..... I had too much time on my hands tonite and after looking at the crappy job the 1st body guy did I got pissed off, so I tore into it. I guess I'm going to tackle the work and make sure it is done correctly. The entire passenger inner/outer rockers, front/rear pillars, front lower quarter, some front floor, lower kick panel will all need replaced. I am glad that the first guy didn't finish because I would have been even more sick if paint would have been put on over this mess. Here are a few pics of what I am dealing with.

Re: My 71 K5
more... the guy put the inner rocker right over these crappy welds from PO. The rocker they put on hit the bottom of the door, now I know why

Re: My 71 K5
This was as far as I got tonite. I have to address the issues in both pillars and take care of the bedside, but I have to have some kind of plan before I tackle more. my magnet wouldnt stick here so I put the wire wheel to it and found almost a 1/4 inch of bondo from PO on his lower patch panel seam. I think the body guy found this but didn't tell me because he knew I would have wanted it fixed. So he threw more bondo on it and primered it.

Looks like the PO and old bodyman did a number on that tub. Can't wait to see some progress pics.

Re: My 71 K5
man i would of wanted to beat the living you know what out of that body man . but its good your fixing it back right and you know its gonna look sweet and be right when you get done with it so keep working on it and dont let the previous work get you down , I need a patch here or there on my old blazer someday before i paint it hopefully one day, man i would give anything to have a shop and some knowledge and be able to put new metal back like it was brand new cause alot of that kinda work goes on these days like you had done ,makes me scared to take mine just anywhere ,i mean you wanted it fixed right and im sure you used good honest hard working money to pay the guy and thats what you got in return ,its sad people do people that way !!!! Anyways take you time and make it right and you know you ll have one sweet first gen. Good luck

Re: My 71 K5
Actually I moved out of Chicago right before my house would be worth nothing and moved about 25 miles south to New Lenox. In Chicago I lived about 2 miles from Midway airport.

Re: My 71 K5
That is too bad about what happened with the old body guy. That is one of the many reasons I do it myself, like you if I don't know how, just take it slow! Good pregoress.
The reason I ask is-- Where did you get the patches for your bed /rear wheel well? the repairs you did there look very much like the ones I will have to do. Thanks, jon |
