Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
[QUOTE=BLE 'BURBAN;4333523]Well I screwed up.... Bought the blacked out lenses thinking they were black chrome but they ain't. They don't reflect squat. almost as bad as driving with the lights off. I'll have to pick up another set of the HELLA lenses this week and swap them out then I'll be back in business. Oh well......Defication Happens... Live & learn
/QUOTE] If you want true HID your best bet wold be to remove the projector in the housing you have and swap it with a TSX or highend bixenon setup. I had a set of those Ebay projectors on another vehicle and had to do the same. The lenses on their projectors are crap. Last edited by osaltyone; 12-10-2010 at 10:58 AM. |

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
Is it necessary to install relays on the headlight circuit when upgrading from the sealed beam headlights to the halogen bulbs??

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
Not really unless you go with higher wattage bulbs than the standard 55w low 65watt high's like I did with the 110w/130w otherwise you can let the smoke outta yer wires and tha's no fun!!!

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
Ok. I've been told by a few people that simply rewiring your headlight circuit with relays will help the brightness of the headlights since there is now voltage drop through the whole circuit anymore. Is this true, or just theory?

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
on these old trucks, with halogens, relays are a MUST. there's a ton of voltage drop when the power has to go through the bulkhead connector twice before it gets to the headlights.

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
I found some great looking 4x6 Low-beam projectors.
Norcalmr2 Pegasus Jr They sell for $ 225,- for just a pair of headlights and he sells HID kit for an extra $75,-. Not very cheap and not bi-xenon....but if you are not up for any retrofitting, then these would be a very good option. I am considering them myself, but need to find out if I will pass the yearly inspection with these babys over here.

I want those. But $225 is steep. Are they H4 bulb type?

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
Finally got my TRUCKLITE CRYSTAL CLEAR lenses (part# 27009) installed and MAN-O-MAN is it ever a vast improvement over those so called projector lenses even better than than the high wattage halogens and Hella lenses.
Here's the lenses with lights off...... Low beam position..... High beam position.... 35mph winds with gusts to 50mph tonight kicked up a lot of snow while I was taking these pics. Temp was about 5*F with a wind chill of about -25*F. The trees were about 300 ft away from me when I took the pics with my back up against the center of the grille. Needless to say I do like these lights quite a bit more. And yes I did have to readjust the aim of the lights so I'm not blinding on coming traffic or other cars as I come up behind them in traffic.

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
Something for you all to consider - I am installing a set of DOT approved 7" LED headlights in my '77 (as all bulbs will be LED when finished). We use these over here in Afghanistan on all the military vehicles & man do they make a world of differance!!! Also got the heavy-duty headlight wiring kit from LMC Truck for good measure, but probably wasn't really needed... Will post some pics of the lights installed once the truck gets to that point.

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
Nope, not that I know of man... These will fit any vehicle with a 7" round light though - luckily I like the 73-80 trucks that have those! Maybe in the future they'll make an application for you!

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
they use H3 bulbs...I believe. But youy should ask the guy. Sent him an email. And let me know if you buy and install them. I am intereseted on how it would look on a truck!
@ BLE \'BURBAN: that looks a lot better. Good reflectors and clear headlights also produce a pretty good beam of light using HIDs. I live in the city and over here this setup is being considered as damn anoying. So I am looking for a setup with a clearer cutoff. Could you maybe make a picture of your cutoff against a wall at about 15 feet?

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
I did the same conversion on my old muscle car a few years back. I bought the cheaper Ebay kit to replace all 4 of my lights. It looked good but the light was horrible. When I first turned them on I was surprised at how bright they looked while standing in front of the car. However during driving conditions (especially on rural roads with no street lights) they were not very good at all. The pattern was horrible. Used them about 1 year and then trashed them for new original replacements.
Hope they have improved them over the years and you like yours.

Re: Converting to Projector lenses & HID bulbs
I called them (TRUCKLITE) back in August about the possibilities of them making these to replace the H6054 lamps (large rectangular's) and their R&D dept rep said they are about 7-8 months away from releasing them in other sizes. So who knows? Maybe by July realistically?
