hot start issues

You will have to put a gasket on bith side and they come in the spacer kit. I believe I put the 1" (or 3/4) and it was the best $40 I have spent on my truck. Went from the hard start problem you have to starting right up in the 10 minutes if took to put the spacer on. You may have to get longer carb studs though.

My hot start problem was fixed by using the insulator gasket mention above (I used the wood laminate) and also replacing the needles/seats in my 1406 carb, which had gotten crudded-up.

I would check my battery connections and battery cables. Make sure they are not corroded and that they have good clean connections.

thought I would tie up the thread here.
a nice tune up- i bought a complete summit hei distributor,
adjusting timing (it was a little advanced)
and starter.
get this: i got under the truck to pull the starter and found the housing for the starter motor so loose i could move it a 1/4 inch!
I pulled it (it was an original delco remy) since i was under there,
took it apart, cleaned it up and installed a rebuild kit (Autozone 20.00) which comprised a new drive/bendix, 2 bushings, leather washer and brushes. It was so easy, I'm surprised I've never heard more folks talking about it- i stumbled on the kit while pricing rebuilt starters.
It starts so good that I am embarassed I didn't check it earlier.

This is real common. I had the same issue, added a spacer and it's a bunch better. Still have to pump a bunch of gas to it if I try to restart it immediately after shutting it off from a long drive. All the gas has dissipated from heat. Pump it 3 or 4 times and see if it helps.Today's fuel is bad about this, apparently some think it has to do with all the additives being more apt to boil. This problem seems to have gotten increasingly worse over the last several years for us folks with old fashioned carburetor vehicles. Some think it's a double edged sword, because you have to run the timing further advanced because of the crappy fuel. Also the higher octane fuels and the ethanol free stuff seems to help.
