The next time I need to move a bed or couch or some heavy furniture I guess I will have to borrow someone’s LWB truck and just use my SWB trucks for drag racing.

Yup, they sold millions of them that way.

Where I come from (Southeast Missouri/Northern Arkansas) people bought short wheel base pickups for farming, primarily for pulling trailers (cotton trailers). The eight or ten shortbox pickups me and my family have owned through the years are a holdover of that pattern. My 87 is still in use today, pulling trailers and doing whatever I ask it to do. I would never characterize it as "useless"; more like an extension of my right arm! All the GM Truck Marketing guys I know are laughing all the way to the bank. K

Re: Who has the SPID with the LEAST amount of options?
bumpers were optional up into the 90's on pickups. (remember all the S-10 trucks with no rear bumpers?) People are SUPPOSED to be protected and not get ticketed, but seems some areas don't practice this. Since the bumpers were not federally mandated, then by federal law they still don't need them.
As for the comments about paint and int color not being optional, actually, there was a base color, and any other color was considered a no cost option. The silverish fawn color was the base color. |

What was the base color paint and interior color on the 1972 trucks?

Re: Who has the SPID with the LEAST amount of options?
I bought a new 65 and also a new 73 chevy swb truck and my reasons were mainly because it hauled all I needed it to haul and it parked easier in town than a long box truck. At the time I thought them they were a sharper truck too ,,but that was before the long boxes were lowered down and now I like them too.
When I bought my 65 and took it to work ,I got more replys of why I didnt buy a truck ,meaning it was to pretty and to short to do any work.. LOL But , by the time I sold it everyone wanted it .. that was I believe in 1971...

Re: Who has the SPID with the LEAST amount of options?
In Maryland, trucks were exempt from inspection until later in the '70s. Vans were big back then and people would take the seats out of passenger vans, take a picture to the DMV and get tags without an inspection because it was considered a cargo van, which was a truck back then. There were no MPV (predecessor to SUV) tags. That all came once inspections were required.
BTW,spare tires were options.

Re: Who has the SPID with the LEAST amount of options?
A lot of these were sold as Fleet vehicles. I was in the Army in the 70's and we had them everywhere, motorpool, flightline, etc. Also Electric companys, Phone companys, County road crews....
A good place to look for strays is your small town City Maint. Units. Posted via Mobile Device

The AM radio the original owner splurged on blew me out of contention on this one.
