Guys got it inspected, no problem at all, the deputy that did it was a old drinking buddy of mine, but it was still all legal

True, however North Carolina DMV requires any vehicle 35 years or older that is purchased from out of state be inspected by a member of the Highway Patrol-License and Theft Bureau. I had to do this with my truck because I purchased it from Virginia. The DMV will not issue the title until this is completed. The Inspector who checked my truck got the VIN off the cab, and the frame and took pictures of both as well as pictures of the outside of the truck. He then ran the VIN to confirm it was not stolen.

As a side note, there is a lot of dispute over this "rule", because it is something the DMV implemented on their own with no legislation a couple of years ago. There was a bill proposed last summer to remove the rule, but I do not believe it passed.
