Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
Hey Guys, I finally had time to start tearing the old long bed apart to get my bed supports that I need for the shortbed. I took them to work and put them in our BIG DISA shot blaster. After about 10 minutes they were almost rust free. Got them home today and primed them with an etching primmer. I have to repair 2 small spots on the end where the wood had rotted and rusted through the metal. After those repairs I will paint them black.

No...actually I think you got them. Did you get them from a guy out in Hickory? I had a hard time getting a hold of him and he sorta just disappeared never to be heard from again.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
I thought I would post some pics of how cheaply made these replacement peices are that im trying to fit. Look at how the holes are drilled way off and some of the holes are egg shaped. I guess I will be welding up some holes and remarking them and drill them out to fit.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
I took one of my inner fenders to work today and dipped it in the acid tank for a few minutes. It cleaned everything off but I had to rinse it with cold water. By the time I finished it at 2:00 and got home at 3:00 it had already flashed rusted over so I got the trusty sand blaster and took care of it. got a few pics in between filling the blaster back up with sand.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
I had to move some stuff around in the shop today and saw that the fender was in a good spot to snap a pic of it. I fixed the lower part of it with a patch panel. I finished this last summer so I dont have any before pics. It needs another coat of filler primmer and a blocking then it should be done.

That is a good lookin inner fender. Mine are shot. What brand is that lower pillar piece? Mine were keyparts and I thought they were acceptable.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
Hey structures, I will look at the name brand on the lower pillar next time I go down to the shop. I bought mine from a local car show, swap meet. I had to move my bed today. I sat it on the frame and man it looks goods to me. I had to take a pic of it. Im getting excited to see this truck as a whole. I got the cab sat down on this little (looks like a twin bed frame) thing I got from a buddies house as he was getting ready to scrap it. I mounted some wheels on it but I have to get 2 more wheels for the other side then I can roll it out of the shop and finish sandblasting some places on the roof.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
I havent worked in the shop in a while, been so busy with family and work. I spent today fitting the cab support, and lower pillar peice. I finished making my patch panel for the floor and I think it turned out pretty good plus it fits better than the crappy replacement peices I bought. I got it spot welded in tonight and will post pics of that later. Im going to the BIG charlotte auto fair tomorrow at charlotte motor speedway. Im hoping to get a new radiator support and a few other odds and ends.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
HA no, I wish mine looked that good. I found that pic on my sprint android phone and downloaded it. Its a 69. Thats what Im going to build mine like minus the decals. You may be able to see mine in the background of my truck pics, Its all tore down also going through complete rebuild. It would probaly be finished right now if I wouldnt have bought this 64 C10.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
hey flip, The color that was on my chevelle was scarlett red, its a crysler color, very redish-orange. It really looked orange under the lights at the gas pumps. Ill get an older pic of it and load it on here for you.

Nice Chevelle! I have been waiting for some pictures.
I spied the side of of in one of the posts earlier!! We have the same rally wheels and center caps too. Is yours a numbers matching car?, The motor in mine was changed to a 327 from a 69 camaro

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
thanks guys, Been watching the weather all day, a tornado plowed through our lowes hardware, Biglots, Tractor supply, and several neighbor hoods about 3 hours ago. Everything is a huge mess. I havent heard of any deaths as of now. Bubba I do still have the matching numbers 307 and the powerglide trans but I put a brand new 350 four bolt main GM crate motor in it back in 95 and a 350 turbo trans. I do have the paint code wrote down somewhere but will have to look for it,I do know it was called scarlette red, crysler color.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build
I got inspired today and uncovered my chevelle , charged the battery a little, gave everything the once over and gave it a bath.
I was headed across town to the saturday night cruise at Pattys burger den . Gonna Hang out and listen to JR and the Stingrays--- Now it is raining waaaaaahhhhh !!! Now I am staying home and cleaning the garage At least we are not having tornados I am still using the powerglide , and it works great, I do sometimes wait for that last shift . I think the Color is Torch red (A 93 corvette color)
