I know of a few people that carry that part in there box on a constant basis and they could have gotten a lot better trucks for $3000

Yea that was a very BS failure for the Ford. The Dodge did epically fail tho I'm sure that could have been easily prevented as well.

Not up here. What you wouldn't give more than $800.00 for down south private parties up here ask for and most often get $25-$3200.00 for.

Re: america's toughest truck

My dad used to have a Ford from that area and it seemed like any time moisture got any where near the engine bay it would stall out. I remember trying to dry out the distributor at the car wash after spraying the engine.

When I watched that Ford going toward the creek crossing with speed, I thought to myself "he's not going to make it" and sure enough he stalled it. It was a bummer about the u-joint, but I'm glad the chevy won. Especially since I am building a 4x4 stepside right now.

Re: america's toughest truck

that was just too funny! i agree that the trucks could have been closer matched, but it represented a large field of styles. check out the feb. issue of DIESEL POWER chevy kicking a#$ in a real match up!!!! like in the show, chevy is the king of the hill!

Re: america's toughest truck

the dude with the chevy was funny how he was bragin bout the massive torque the 6.2 had then he pops the hood and it was a lowly 350 personaly, but the part that got me laughin was when he said "diesel" and "massive torque" in the same sentence, he was mislead. i woulda bought a 77 chevy 1 ton 4x4 with a 350 and a granny gear personaly and slept in the cab

but chevy proved its self a long time before those dummys got a license

Re: america's toughest truck

Not at all a fair comparison. They had to buy a truck "sight unseen". What the hell did that prove? A more fair comparison would have been three restored trucks kept stock. The Dodge was too new for a fair comparison, but that turd died anyway lol. As for the Ford, those old trucks were tough as hell, but what kind of moron would embark on such a journey without a spare u-joint?

What really pissed me off was that rice burner always lurking in the bushes like there was no way it would fail because it was a Toyota. I've had a similar Toyota and I think they are over-hyped.

Good show, though. I thought it was entertaining and the right truck won.

Now I have to go post this video over on the Ford forum LMAO!

Re: america's toughest truck

Some of you are putting to much thought it to this. First of all, this is TV. Second, this was not a scientific test of what is best or not. The deal was $3000 and 150,000k sight un seen because it's in Alaska. The only thing you can fault the Ford for was being picked to begin with. It was obviously was not taken care of well, but it was. They did not say they could use whatever money they had left over to do repairs. If they did, both trucks would have made it.. most of all, it was all for fun that would be dumb down for the masses.

They all drove the trucks like idiots. They would have probably all made it with better drivers. It was cool and I hope they cleaned up there damn mess.

Agreed, the challenge wasn't to see which truck did the best when babied... the smurfside was driven the same way as the other two and could have broken just as easily but it didn't. It also appeared to me that the ear on the drive shaft broke, not just the joint but I could be wrong.

You know, these guys catch a ton of grief online about the US series not being as good as the UK original but very few seem to keep in mind the UK version is in their 16th season! If you go back and watch the first few seasons I personally think they were worse than the US version. There was also something that didn't work here with the UK version, Discovery channel tried it for a season and the ratings were horrible which is a shame.

All in all I think this was the best episode of the series so far and felt most like the British version.

LOL, alright. I'm just saying that most people take the US version to task because it is a copy of the ORIGINAL show which is great TV. So I guess that is one thing they do better than us?

First of all, I have never seen a British show that was any good. Their humor is just weird.

Second of all the British are incapable of besting America at anything. ANYTHING.

I totally agree. Season 1 was Clarkson, Hammond and that other guy whose name I forget. Clarkson was an old hat at the game, but you could tell it was a new format for the show. When they replaced that other guy with May in season 2, you could see the show begin to become the show that it is today.

The odd British humor is part of what makes the BBC Top Gear the great show that it is. You should give the show a try sometime. Find some episodes to download. They drive more than just British cars and they venture outside of the UK quite often. They have two episodes filmed completely in the US, one of which was absolutely epic!

With over 350 million viewers, BBC's Top Gear is the biggest TV show in the world. Without a doubt, the British have bested America at something.
