Re: A Longhorn, for real???
their trying to do the whole redneck flavor that hollywood cooked up. LOL
I swear you could cut those seats up and make a set of cowboy boots. WTF were they thinking? totaly corny IMO like the exterior tho and if it con be bought with a 8 1/2 foot bed even better just put a diesel and a manual trans with 4x4 and i'd buy one strip that interior out and put a nicer SLT interior into it and work the piss outa it

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
Honestly, I'd be real surprised if anyone in the Dodge offices that came up with their Longhorn designation has any clue that GM made their own way back when.
Just marketing at this point...well, that and some fancy leather.

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
I actually like the truck. The seats are totally cool. I would kill to have a pair of boots with that design on them. The leather on the dash is pretty cool too. I'm not really digging the oversized emblem on the door, but some dental floss and patience would take care of that. Keep in mind that I'm not a big fan of Dodge, but I do like the older trucks and the new ones. The in-between years are junk in my opinion. But hey, to each his own.

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
That Dodge looks like it had a bad day on Pimp my Ride. I'm sure that I'll see a number of them around here towing horse trailers though.
I don't know what the copyright on vehicle model names is but I'd hope that the GM copyright lawyers give Dodge some static over the name. |

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
I like the Dodge. Just because this is a GM based board doesn't mean you have to hate the other manufacturers. There is/has been modern GM trucks with the same appointments and badges. Lets not forget GM's attempt to bring the GTO back. The modern GTO worked on paper but man what a flop.

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
The GTO was a Badass world class touring sedan. Just because the public expected a car from the '70s,which is all Chrysler could do,doesn't put the car at fault. I am a GM guy from way before websites. I am here because it's a GM truck website, not I like GMs because this is a GM truck site.
As far as taking the Longhorn name. At one time it was common practice to share model names between manufacturers, even at the same time. In 1970 Chevy,GMC,Dodge, and Ford all had "Custom" truck badges. Plymouth had a Suburban station wagon in the '50s. If you look at models throughout the years you'll see it time and time again. Heck,White Trucks had a Mustang. Ford had the Club Coupe in '49 and that's what Dodge called their extended cabs in the late '70s. It's just a name and one thing for sure, there's no comparison. The Chevy Longhorn is a real truck built to last...with just a tasteful rear quarter script badge...Not too flashy...True Chevy class.

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
I don't hate it because it is a Dodge, heck I just sold a 2006 Cummins 4x4, one of my favorite vehicles I ever owned. I "severely dislike" this thing because of all the crap they hung on it. And secondly, show me a GM truck in the last 20 years with the same type of gaudy/tacky appointments and badges. I can think of nothing this tasteless, I'm mainly speaking about the interior (sorry to offend those who like this stuff, but it really rubs me the wrong way).

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
I just hate all the plastic and crap on everything now and i'm not at all a fan of leather. My daily driver is a 97 chevy and i can't really see them being around 40 years as these trucks have been so my first love is always old cars and trucks with metal.

Exactly what is the "long" part?

Longhair. My guess the long part they advertise is the numbers on the price tag

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
GM Must have sold Chrysler the rights to use the Longhorn name. You just can't borrow names like that.
I can't imagine how uncomfortable that emblem on the seat is on one's back. You'd have the mirror image of it on your back after a long trip.

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
Kinda a slap in the face if you ask me! There was a kid in High school that had a late 80's "Nova"! ugliest thing ever and abomination of the name! I drove my dads 67 SS to school one day and the guy parks next to me, gets out and says "sweet dude we have the same car!"....not hardly....my grandfather is looking to buy one of the Dodge Longhorns

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
i drive a 99 dodge with a cummins, but always have loved chevys, and imo the last year chevy had a truck on the market was in 99 with the old body style, dodge lost there truck roots somewhere around 02 or 03 when the 2500 and 3500's went to the new body style, i have no clue about furds as i do not even try to keep up with them. i dislike the exterior styling of this and almost all new trucks (chevys included), the only one i remotley like is a tundra, that all being said i like the seats and for my money chrome, woodgrain, and leather it doesnt get much better than that unless you add fancy stitching to the leather or throw some good ol' dimond plate (its a MAN's best friend)
and as far as the names are concirned what about the whole 1500, 2500, 3500 series?? is it not the same thing? i understand that it is for half, 3/4 and 1 tons but a half ton truck is not what it used to be at all i do not care what the mfg's say they arent and it is all junk these days. |

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
I was thinking about this thread just the other day. I saw a Sierra Grande on the road and I thought "That badge is even bigger than the Dodge emblem those guys were talking about on the board."

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
Dodge has used the Longhorn or maybe BigHorn name before in the mid 2000's but I'm not sure what the package was and it definitely wasn't plastered all over the truck. My DD is a 07 3500 with the 5.9 Cummins but I refused to get the new 6.7L. I'm not a big fan of the new styling so Ill be sticking with mine for a while.

Re: A Longhorn, for real???
My neighbor had a Dodge with the BigHorn package and it was a different style of wheel, that's it, nothing else. The car makers have found that the average American, not those of us who appreciate the older cars/trucks, are "wowwed" by fancy names and fancy TV commercials showing exciting people doing exciting things in these "exciting" vehicles. It's all crapola!
