Re: Where to begin?

Hey, you aren't too far from me. I know we need to put together some PNW trucks if the rain ever slows.

Re: Where to begin?

I agree! The winters around here really slow progress. It would be cool to have a PNW trucks meet or something. especially when mine is on the road. And your right , you aint that far. i think my band played somewhere near Beaverton before. (I think) Haha

I am with ya, though I tend to really enjoy everything on list 1, and list 1 seems to get longer all the time 'cause that's the nature of building a custom instead of doing a restoration.

As a certifed "older guy" I got a question for ya'll that are chomping at the bit.

Do you really want to be done? Do you get more of a kick out of driving your truck, or building the truck?

Give me the option of driving or wrenching on my '65, and I will take wrenching. Don't get me wrong, it's all good, and a mixture of the two is great, but it's the thrill of the build that keeps my batteries charged.

Don't set artificial deadlines, just enjoy the ride, or the build: whichever floats your boat.

This reminds me of an old joke that my old welding buddy McGhee told me about 15 years ago, 'cept he didn't use the word "shag"
There’s an old bull and a younger bull sitting on a hill. The younger bull says, “Look at all those cows. Let’s run down and shag one of them.” The older bull ponders this for a moment, considers his answer carefully, and says, “How about we walk down and shag them all?”

Re: Where to begin?

I think engine and trans are on the very last of my list honestly. My list starts like this

1. take truck to shop
2. Buy a welder
3. Learn how to weld better

And so on .

I'm more middle aged, I guess, but I would say "both". I just wish I had time/money

I love the build process and I love to show off my hard work, too. When I am tired of the '66, I still have another street bike to build, a chopper, and my daughter still wants a Vette (I have 6 more years to build that, though).

So it's not like I will hurry the '66 and have nothing in the garage. There is always at least one drawing on the board.

Re: Where to begin?

And enjoy that garage!! We all wish we had bigger. Under the Shade Tree in winter is no place to be.

Winter gets us all down a little, I'm sure its really cold and gray for you. But now is the time for prepping all the the little things / parts--when spring and summer arrive i bet you will have renewed energy and enthusiasm, and you can make rapid progress.

Like lakeroadster said, enjoy the process, and the satisfaction of each little step.
