Any body bend there own brake lines?

Double flares are not horrible to make, just takes some practice. But you MUST get it right......it is your brakes after all.

I bought stainless lines which was over-kill here in California. Those lines are brutally stiff. Forget flaring them yourself without a $$$$$ flaring tool either. They even killed my Snap-On tubing bender. IMHO, don't bother.

Steel lines should work just fine, and are alot easier to work with.

Go buy a small cheap piece of line from Autozone and a inexpensive bender and try it out. Too difficult? Not much money lost.......

The preflared ends that you can buy at the auto store, do they come with the couplings already on them im assuming?

yes the pre flaired tubing from the auto store comes with the fittings already on them

I guess you answered that in your first post. So all in all how hard was it? Did you run into any tight spots or areas where you had trouble getting to?

nope no issue at all, except when i bent a 90 degree the wrong way out back and had to completely bend it 180 degree back the other way lol. but it was still an easy fix. it also makes it easier out back because i have no floor haha.

I dont know if Im a dinosaur or what but I do everything I can do to my old cars myself. Bending and fitting lines just takes patience and the right tools. A decent bender, flare kit and a roll of line and some fittings and youre good to go.

... yes, but after spending the money to buy the RIGHT tools you could have purchased 2 pre-bent kits.

The easiest line I have found to work with so far is from NAPA, it's called poly armor, you can work it and bend it very easy. You can bend it using only your hands, if you mess up just bend it back and rebend! I use this stuff almost daily at our store, building custom hard and and soft DOT approved brake lines.

they sell that poly armor line at autozone, which is exactly what i used.

I would like to do it myself but i would go with the preflared because i want to make sure there a good fit. Is the poly armor weaker than the stiffer stuff? Why is it so much easier to work with?

I bought the tubing with the already flared ends I purchased at Carquest. I used a Rigid bending tool I borrowed from a friend. I took one look at the bending tool at Auto Zone and decided that this would not be as easy to use as the Rigid. I have a '53 Chevy truck and relocated the fuel tank from behind the seat and put a new one (from Doc's Kustom Tanks) under the bed. I used the old original line to practice on and then took some measurements and drew up what the new line should look like. Start out slow and don't over bend the angle. Bend it some and check it. Then bend it a little more. Do this because once the angle is in there is no going back the other way. Long curves can be achieved using the curved part of the frame. I got a lot of satisfaction doing this.

You can also use a coat hanger to make up a template in some of the more tricky area's I love my snap on tools bender.
