Re: Winter storm

We here in Maryland have gotten jipped this year. Of 7 major storms that came up and threatened this area, all that has happened is a bunch of rain.
Never seen anything like it. It gets cold, low to mid 20's, a storm will move near and the temps will shoot up to 33 (or higher) and it will rain. After the rain, it goes back down to the 20's.

After growing up in Maine, I enjoy snow.

I know its not as bad as where some of you guys are, but this is my driveway. I got lucky and found a guy that can clear it today. I'd of never got it done with just a shovel.

You just had to rub it in huh? IDK how cold it is here, but when I got to work at 1pm it was 1* and no wind. Now we have wind and my hands are hating it.

Re: Winter storm

Before work I went to my parent's house to use my dad's plow truck and clear the drive way for him before he gets home from work. The driveway there always drifts bad. I was surprised the driveway wasn't bad. My Dodge went right up it in 2 Hi. But his car and the 2wd duallys would never make it up it. I got to the top and looked out by the horse barn and just started laughing.

Here's a pic of the old war wagon. We just got this truck back running again. The poor girl has been through a lot. This last go around was a transfer case issue and has had the truck sitting out the last 2 winters.

I lived in Ohio for 45 years (why?), so I understand everyone's discomfort. But it's been in the 70's for several days here in Clearwater; I'm sitting here with the doors & windows open.

Re: Winter storm

The same weather that is keeping you guys cold is keeping us warm and clear out here on the left coast - aside from a little 2-tenth of an inch rain 2 days ago, we've been dry all January, and probably most of February; which means the goofy weather will keep coming for you guys, at least for a couple more weeks. La Nina strikes again.

It MIGHT get above freezing around 2 or 3 PM. Their still predicting 30% chance of snow flurries today and 40% tomorrow but I doubt we'll see any this far south. Just the same it's still COLD! I live in a travel trailer and I've had to keep all the faucets dripping or else the water lines will freeze. I feel for you guys with the snow. I don't think I could handle it.

I work for a readymix concrete company, they shut us down yesterday and today and the way it looks tomorrow as well. Paycheck will be extra light next week :/

Re: Winter storm

I woke up yesterday morning to no electricity and no water. It seems there wasn't enough power to go around so there were rolling blackouts.

I spent an hour or two figuring out where the pipes were frozen and melting the ice with a propane torch. They say to use boiling water, but when you have no water due to frozen pipes it's hard to get.

Now I know where the pipes freeze, and wonder why anyone would plumb the line that way. There are two 3/4" copper lines coming out of the ground by the garage and going through the wall. They come into the garage, turn up and connect to each other.

Re: Winter storm

12" of snow.... 40-50mph winds... and -20* windchill.

This stuff was more like sand than snow, just wasn't wet enough to do much with.

In the picture my Jeep is only barely on the "road". The road is quite a bit closer to the fence.

Re: Winter storm

Round two for West Texas. Not nearly as windy/cold/muchsnow, but it is a nasty wet snow with soggy mud already. It is supposed to get down to mid 20's tonight, so it will be slick in the AM.
