The best revenge is living well.
Sounds like you aren't breaking any bylaws, so keep to yourself and don't let her get to you. Greg.

I would be offended by the retarded redneck attack by oem4me if I had not found this quote.
"You may be a redneck if . . . you have spent more on your pickup truck than on your education." I am quickly on my way. AJ |

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
I'm just going to go about my business and be proud of my truck. I do not live in an HOA neighborhood - but my dad does and he is constantly worried about late HOA payment penalties, replacement pool pass fees, parking the wrong way on the street, etc. I own a business in the unincorporated part of the next county away. You can see the metal garage in one of the "before" images of my truck. It is a nice space to work but I tend to attract too much "help" and advice when I work on it there. Plus, that is where I tend to be the most stressed out - at work. Thanks for the input guys. I'll pick up a locking gas cap and keep the truck and its leaking rear main in my driveway a little more often.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
No it isn't you but just let it roll off . Here in San Jose you can not park your car/truck on the street for more then 3 days, the catch is that they only "tag" it if someone complains.
I would move it back and forth, fix it, drive it and enjoy it. A locking gas cap and a hood chain would be good ideas. If you realy want to squash it you could tell her "not that it really matters but here is why I am fixing this old truck" tell her whos truck it was and how you came to have it. Knowing that will most likley make her feel like crap. Or take her a couple of carne asada tacos loaded tounge melting hot sauce compliments of the Mexican truck oh and for what it is worth that is a GREAT LOOKING TRUCK!!

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
You need to throw a party and invite some of us.My truck is so ugly she would really start to appreciate yours.I had a similar issue years ago when I was driving a 53 f100 in patina. The police knocked on my door and told me that a neighbor had complained that I was parking the wrong way in front of my house.I asked which neighbor and he told me he could not tell me which one while he pointed at the neighbors house.I asked him if I parked the correct way in front of my neighbors house if it would be legal. He grinned and said that would be perfectly legal.I left it there for 2 weeks.Never had another issue.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
I wouldn't let that bother me! I say that, but it would tick me off too. You never can tell about how people will react in situations like that. Some people have nothing better to do than worry about stuff like that.
We moved to a nice neighborhood, and I was worried about what the neighbors would say about my '64 and my Formula. They have all been great so far! Of course, those two sit in the garage all the time. I haven't had them out in the driveway working on them yet either though. |

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
Yeah, then you can hold hands and sing campfire songs together. From personal experience, redneck though it may be, say your piece and let it ride. I had a similar issue, it was a few short words exchanged in anger and then he left my driveway quickly. I was the first person he came to about his wifes car when it broke though. I gave him advice, a source for parts, and even helped him fix it. Now we get along great. Maybe she was just having a bad day?

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
I live in a neighborhood where were suppose to keep our yards well maintained or just not let them go to dumps. Were also not suppose to keep things outside sitting (visible to other people) for long periods of time. So I would think that if your driving it every so often, it shouldn't be a problem, because it's actually driveable. If your driving it she shouldn't care at all. It's a hobby to you, everybody has different hobbies. If your working on it, and it's not really anywhere near driveable, then maybe you would want to park it in the garage or driveway and pull it out whenever you can work on it.
I wouldn't really try and cause any trouble to her, cuz that's the last thing you would wanna do to a neighbor... Like other people said, if you just told her what your doing and why, she prob wouldn't say that much. Good Luck! |

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
I think the truck is awesome. I would just treat the neighbor like you want to be treated and in the meantime I would make sure it was leagally parked, like pointed the correct direction for the street traffic flow and within 12-15 inches or less near the curb etc., ignore the bashing mexi comment and go on living my life enjoying my awesome truck.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
people never tend to shock me with some of the ignorance one human being can display because of a personal bias...no pun intended. Im all for kicking the fire, but that may not be the best thing especially with opposition so close to home. I dont think you neccesarily have to tell her you story, but perhaps if you have a hoa, you can tell your story too, and inform them of the incident, or some of the like just to start a trail and perhaps cover yourself. The cover for the truck in not a bad idea, but is not neccesary either, considering you could live in an affluent neighborhood, and maybe not drive a 125,000 vehicle. Then what? if it was your DD and not a project, she could not MAKE you buy a "nicer" looking vehicle...just saying...Document the incident, and the boards are timestamped continue to update your progress and any dealings with her, in case she attempts to raise cain. Nice truck !

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
Great that you are building up the truck that was your friends. Ugly is truly a state of mind: Nothin' ugly 'bout your truck.
The gal across the street may have been trying to "set you up" when she asked "Are you working on your truck?". Let me explain: Where we live restrictions (HOA) forbid working on vehicles on the street and even in your own driveway. Vehicle has to be in the garage to be worked on. I know you stated you don't live in an HOA community, but I would be surprised if there aren't city or county ordinances that don't allow working on yourt truck in the street. Only reason I bring this up is you may want to check with your local zoning people and find out what restrictions there are in your area. Being armed with the facts minimizes surprises, and puts you on a level playing field. The last thing you want is to find out there are restrictions and that the gal across the street can legally turn you in. Getting a fine would no doubt really make things go from bad to worse. Good luck and keep on truckin. Last edited by lakeroadster; 02-06-2011 at 09:19 AM. |

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
In my opinion, I don’t find anything wrong with your truck nor do I find anything wrong with it being in the street in the state it is in. It is a classic and 40 yrs old. I have seen vehicles less than seven years old look like a pile of crap. I am more offended by the “Mexican truck” term she used. I am Mexican, actually American of Mexican descent and normally stuff like that does not bother me, I don’t see people like that, especially being in the military which is the melting pot of the melting pot. Heck my wife is white and I live in Idaho. I was told one time, when the police came to my door, that I had to move my 04 Chevy into the street. He said that people in the neighborhood were complaining about cars blocking the sidewalk. I told him no because the last time I parked in the street the neighbor across the street backed into it. Now do not get me wrong, if I truly were blocking the sidewalk I would have moved it into the street, but it was only my rear bumper over the sidewalk. That is why my wife and I want to move out and get a piece of land somewhere and out of the neighborhoods. We actually had a neighbor come up to us when we were changing the landscape a bit in our front yard and asked if we had written the HOA to get permission to change our plants and put rock in place of the bark in our yard. I told him the HOA can kiss my a** and that when they actually make people clean their yard or cut their grass I may ask to make my yard better looking. Oh and by I guess these are “Mexican trucks” since a Mexican owns them.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
First, make sure you aren't breaking any ordinances by being in the street as Lakeroadster suggested. If you are, move it to your yard. Second, Forget that woman completely. Don't retaliate, don't hold any ill will or grudges toward her. Those kinds of actions and thoughts will be discursive to your friends memory and the work you and your daughter are doing to restore what he started.
I've had my truck torn apart every which way to sunday right in my front yard, and I never cared a bit what my neighbors thought of it. My house is well kept, I am not dirty or loud, and I know that while my truck my be up on blocks or without a hood (or bed... or doors... or whatever it is I'm doing to it at the time) it will always get put back together and be better (hopefully) than it was before I took it apart. My house is my sanctuary, I come here to escape the opinion of the outside world; I literally could not care any less what someone looking into my yard thinks about my old truck.

People should mind there own business, instead of somebody else's. I would of told her when she starts paying your bills, you will listen to her. Till then screw off!

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
I would have told that old beach that yes I'm am working on this "Mexican" truck, it may be ugly but it is loved; now what's your excuse for being on the street? Maybe a Mexican flag car cover would solve her dilemma...
Btw; I have not seen one example of a true Mexican truck as none of these have been overloaded with ladders stacked 15' high over the beds... Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?
Yeah be at peace with her because we know what she is. And after you make her happy offer her a ride in the old truck and show her a piece of History. She might change her tune after. I dought it but you never know. I used to yell at my neighbor becuase she called the cops on us for racing our motorcycles up and down the street (Mostly just riding fast not really racing). We were just into our twenties at the time. Now she calls on me to do most of the work to her house and her rental properties. I guess you can say I am getting my pay back.. hehehehe. She is still a *****y woman but I just take it as her personality and shrug it off. I am not going to let it get to me.
