Re: Cup Holder!
I really like your ideal, it is very creative and innovative, Great job! Your ideal alone should be immortalized in the Board FAQ for future reference. I look forward to a finished cupholder.

Re: Cup Holder!
Thank you all for the information and some great Idea's here. I will just have to keep searching around for a way to change my ashtray into a cup holder.

Re: Cup Holder!
Why keep looking. I posted the link to it in the Year One catalog. Don't look at the picture of the wrong one. Look upper right hand corner with no picture but a description.

Re: Cup Holder!
I'm gonna see if I can adapt one of these to mount somewhere. It folds up into a 4"x4" square about a 1/2" thick.

Re: Cup Holder!
I have one that looks pretty good. I'm still trying to figure out how to make it work better since the ash tray face attaches with clips so it slides around when you pull it out.
Also keep in mind your drink will block your radio. I have the one in this article... http://www.sporttruck.com/techarticl...ion/index.html |

Re: Cup Holder!
Don't these also splash whatever you're drinking onto the radio and heater controls? Seems like an under the dash unit makes a lot more sense? Maybe I am missing something.......

Re: Cup Holder!
lakeroadster i never thought of that.... Hmmm maybe one that just bolts to the exsisting holes where the heater controls hook up to the dash. But if you have gauges down there that would rule that out. Anybody have any ideas where you could put it in the cab? As of right now i have a removable one that sits on the high hump cover but dont trust it holding my drink in frear itll slide off or tip...

Re: Cup Holder!
Looks good GRS but what do I do if I have a bench seat? Would it be highjacking to ask if anyone has seen a conversion kit or good ideas for installing a cup holder in mid 80s trucks?

Re: Cup Holder!
I got one from Kenny's Truck parts, in Tulsa. It is the metal one that I think you're asking about. You remove everything but the face and attach it to the cup holder parts. I haven't done mine, yet. But, acquiring the 2nd cab means I now have 2 ashtrays, so I can modify one and keep the other one stock. As you can see, the one that you use to convert you ash tray is from Old Air Products.
As for the wooden one, I have one in billet aluminum that I got at a rod shop. I didn't mount it, because I would have had to drill holes in the dash....and I'm somewhat of an anti-hole driller kinda guy.

Re: Cup Holder!
I used one from a '90s toyoto camray. jap cars have to be good for something.
I had to widen the hole and put some mounting tabs on the sides. When you pull it out, the two square loops drop down to support the bottom of the cups.

Re: Cup Holder!
"grs" noted this style above that I have been using for years. Here's the how to build thread from years ago. It's not dash mounted like you want but it works great, is super cheap and in my opinion looks good with my black interior.

Re: Cup Holder!
The Lexus IS250 & 350 have a rear cup holder that ejects out of the front of arm rest. I believe it would be just about the right size to fit in the ashtray cut out. It is a nice smooth mechanism. Might be worth looking at.
EDIT: Just checked, The wife's 08 GS has the same cup holder in the rear so an 07 up IS or GS would have it.

Re: Cup Holder!
Some awesome ideas here. I am hesitant to replace my good condition original seat for a newer one, but it's not fun having hot coffee spilled all over. I will have to work at a solution for it.

Re: Cup Holder!
That is exactly what I use. These obviously aren't pictures specifically of the cup holder but you can see it over behind the steering column.

Re: Cup Holder!
I bought a factory cup holder off of a 1994 chevy truck from ebay. Made a bracket, painted it all black and i"m pretty happy with it. Sorry about the blurry cell phone pics...and the dirty truck.
