I clean up and organize everything,2 weeks later I go looking for something and forget the system I used to organize.I tear everything apart again and make a big mess,then I know where to find it until the next time I cleanup.

I find it helpful when dismantling vehicles to bag and label all parts with their hardware. That way when I lose them I can feel like an even bigger idiot for going to all the trouble.

I've gone to my tool chest with a bolt in hand looking for a wrench to fit it. Found the wrench, went back to the truck with the wrench and not have the bolt And I know I didn't put it down!

Was overhauling a dodge dakota IFS front differntial several years ago. Lost the sliding collar that ties the stub shafts togehter when you engage the front axle. spent a solid 8 hours looking for it, to no avail. 90 dollars and 3 days from dodge, I had a new one. 2 1/2 months later I found it in a five gallon bucket full of used trans fluid on the other end of the shop form were I was working. Bucket had been covered for a few months prior to the diff build. My only explanation was that some Mopar parts ninja snuck in while I wasn't looking and dropped it in the bucket in the effort to sell a rarely needed part for way too much money .

now that's a special case. man when a part wants to hide, they usually find a good place to hide

Wow! It's nice to know I'm not alone. I lose tools/parts/nuts and bolts so often I have decided it's called "walking" stuff from where you need it to somewhere you have to find it. It's most likely from playing too much hide and seek as children.

Lost my work keys the other day.
I have my work keys on my cargo van's keychain. Usually one of the employees is driving the cargo van and I am driving the pickup which has it's own keychain.
Anyway, I drove to the post office and the work keys weren't in my pocket, the work keys have my PO box key on them. Drove home and couldn't find them either. Drove to the last job site and no keys. Finally I got back into the van and sat for a minute. Finally it hit me that the work keys were in the ignition of the van I had been driving the whole time!!!

I often spend time coming up with "better" ways to stay organized...freezer bags and sharpie markers...digital pics...only makes me feel worse/stupid when I need something and I spend time looking and looking through each and every bag/box/bin over and over saying things like "it's got to be here" and a "few other choice phrases"

I finally started nailing parts to the garage wall...actually working out better now

I made everything much easier for myself... I dont take anything apart unless I already have a bolt kit sitting in my part/box pile. .. Althought pretty soon Im going to have $5k invested in bolts and screws once everything is said and done. :P

The best way to find a misplaced part is to buy another one. I guarantee you'll find the part then.

The problem I have is forgetting I bought something. I'll be looking for a certain part and,"This is mine?...YAY!" How do you think I ended up with a loft full of N.O.S. parts? They weren't N.O.S. when I bought them.

Finding a tape measure is one of my problems, I must have a dozen and rarely can find one.

I was cleaning my garage one day and found 3 steering wheel pullers I must have purchased over the years.

During the course of my shortbox build I have moved three times. I have lost so many little parts that I am looking at buying a complete parts truck to replace them!!

My students use to through out good parts thinking they would not be needed.

I put my time at $20.00 per hour. If it cost $20.00 I'll look for an hour. If it cost $40.00 then 2 hours and so on. This works great just figure out what your time is worth.

Well my second set of hinge pins and bushings arrived today. I installed them and I am ready to hang the door on the cab soon. Still missing the first set of pins and bushings. Oh well!

I just found the original hinge pins. Time to sell them! This has to be the longest I have lost a part.
