Here in the great Republic of Texas, they get you when you transfer title. no longer can you say you bought that truck or car for $100.00 or whatever, they go by a book value, my buddy went in to transfer title a 60's Ferd and they can back with a $5700.00 value, 6% tax on that...you do the math. It doesnt matter what shape it is in, they access the value.

Really? When I registered mine in Uvalde county I had no trouble. Two years ago I did mine and they did it by purchased value. I said I bought it as is from the original owner and still had the signed bill of sale which was $500.00 and they did it. By the time I was done with the weight fee and county tax is was cheap!
Oh well, lets see what happens when i go to register my 69 1/2 A12 Super Bee. If that's the case I'll keep the historical plates from Cali on it!

Re: CA online dmv accurate?

Art, Here in the Golden Shower State, the DMV employees are trained to extract as much money as possible. (revenue enhancement) They will not tell you how to get around fees such as back registration. Since your truck has been in your garage and has no moving violations, parking tickets, etc., you can ask for a "statement of facts" form. Fill that out stating that your truck has not touched the road in the last 3 years and the DMV must waive all back fees. It also helps if you are VERY nice to the person at the counter.
Hope that helps,
Ray

If you have paperwork showing the non-op status, you are fine.

Paying about $125.00 for mine.
I do know that the DMV Fees have gone WAY UP.
I went online to get my DL renewed and it's $34.00 now.

As for the original posters question, when I swapped my 96 2-Door Tahoe for my 72 GMC, the PO had just paid $564.00 in fees to get it registered.
Good thing for ME!

Re: CA online dmv accurate?

I just did mine in Oct. and it was $67 because I have non-commercial plates (registered it with a camper originally).

I just went through this. CHP gave me a ticket for weight fees due and I had to go to court and prove my cover was a camper. I did win.
