Rede, looks like you have the start of a project on your hands.
I can see some rust, dont know what the floors look like but looks like you have the start of a good truck on your hands there. You definately need to get us some more pics!

Re: New teritory for me. Need some help :(
Yeah the fenders and the one cab corner are rusting.
If whoever cut the fenders would have sealer them up with temclad/rustolium, I'm sure they would have been okay. The floor and rocker are in good shape though. Which is more than I can say for my white truck...fenders on it are pretty good still but its an 82 an the front fenders are slightly different. (I preffer the round headlights and rounded grill) more pics in a bit Posted via Mobile Device |

Piktorz One tire has a deep slice in it :S It's not showing cords, but it is pretty deep... What can I use to fill the gash so nothing can get wedged in there? I was thinking automotive urethane like the glass shops use. No, definately not a mall crawler lol However I don't want to see it end up like the red parts truck which is really typical for what's in this neck of the woods. The white truck looks good on the outside but the floor was toast and the rockers are bad under the cab...cab mounts are also in bad shape too. Last edited by Rede; 03-15-2011 at 03:59 PM. |

Looks like you've got a good collection of vehicles to work with there. I was unaware that you had 38" boggers. I would go out and run those through the mud asap, I don't know how you've waited this long.

Thanks.
It needs some work but hopefully nothing major... Trying to borrow a 35" mud terrain to see if it looks better on the truck lol Posted via Mobile Device |

35's will look damn good on it, they are my favorite tire to run with a 6" lift.

I hope the 35's will fill some of that gap! Looks like florida mudder (no offence to anyone) The dumb thing is that I bought those 35's for 175 bucks, mounted on eagle alloy's from a guy at work. Then this other guy threw dana60 axle's under his jeep and wanted these 35's, which I ended up trading for a 4" lift he had kicking around. Now I'm probably going to deal with him again to get the tires back and that lift is still in the garage... Last edited by Rede; 03-16-2011 at 02:37 AM. |

Id also look into a set of cut out fender flares, you may be able to trim yours out to fit them and have it look a lot better.

I'd LOVE a set of fender flares, like the OEM black 'no frills' ones. But people still want 400 bucks for a set and the more popular Bushwackers are in the 600 range... I might have a lead on a 1980 factory tach cluster for 100 bucks + shipping if he agrees to ship. Will there be anything I'll need to do in order to use it, or is it just plug and rev? |

Re: New teritory for me. Need some help :(
So you have a 4" lift collecting dust? Why not stick that on there? Do that, and you can run 33's, or 35's properly avoiding BGT syndrome. Sell the 38's and the 6" lift and use the money towards your tags, and maybe some shocks. Then just keep the 33's until you can save for something better in a 35 flavor. Also, dig up some front fenders to replace those butchered ones.
See if you can go junkyard searching for a front drive shaft while your at it. One other thing. About the 454. If you plan on running this on the street a lot, are you sure that is the route you want to go? Mileage only goes down, and you can make the 350 stout with no much work assuming it is mechanically sound. A used carb/dual plane intake, hot cam, and a set of headers will turn it into a whole 'nother animal. Plus, without the weight of those bloated tires you will see a huge boost alone... Not helping that the 4.10 gears with 38's is WAY off. Something in the 4.88-5.13 is the proper gear for those tires. Which your transmission is telling you by kicking down for the extra .52 reduction. On the other hand 33's and 4.10 would PERFECT. 4.10 is a tad small for 35's, but whats 300RPM between friends...

Re: New teritory for me. Need some help :(
I'm hoping the 35's will look decent enough for DD use, then I can switch tires for weekend fun.
My car (2001 T/A) already had the goodies that you speak of and it was constantly at the gas station as it was. $300 in fuel/month + $165/month insurance and $250/month payments. After I bought the truck, with the 33's on, I was barely able to push 90km/h @ 2500rpm in 4th and it wasn't all that zippy. Intake - 200 to 250 Cam -200 to 300 depending on brand Valve springs + lifters 250+ range Gaskets - 75+ range Carb - 300 to 470 range Headers - 200+ range ------------------------- $1225-1545 Around....300hp....? Or: 1999 vortec 7.4L (already have) Performer 2.0 intake (already have) 650 carb (bought last week) holley electric fuel pump (already have) upper 1999 rad hose $45 lower 1980 rad hose $25 Headers $200 -------------- $270 Around 350hp, 450lbs of torque. The gears won't be optimal, I know, but itsn't that what 4low is for? lol |

Speaking from experience a large cam 350 is going to get better mileage then a 454 and make enough power to nip right on the heals of a factory 454. Not to mention the extra weight of the 454. Which in a rig that is going to see a lot of soggy ground makes a big difference. The only way the guys run the boat anchors in the mud trucks is the big power numbers. Even then you still watch them plowing while the front end sinks. Not even gonna get into how long a BB will last compared to a SB riding in the upper RPM range. I can understand wanting a 454 because you want a 454, but it being a better option is debatable.

Re: New teritory for me. Need some help :(
Felpro intake gaskets cost me 37 bucks plus tax.
Timing chain/water pump gaskets I was told 40-45. Springs I was told 150 mark. Didn't know rlifters cane with cam, but 250 local for a performer cam which reqires springs and elderbrockly timing gear (according to cam instructions) 217 for new performer intake, 150 for local kijiji and it's filthy! Qjet new here is 380. Performer or 600 holley basic carb is 400. The good holley off-road carb, 700-ish cfm is 475. (small town, 5hours from nearest REAL parts shop and no competition = bend over) The vortec specs for the gen6 7.4L as far as I could find was 300hp/400lbs of torque. (to the crank) You don't think with a decent carb intake, decent carb and headers an extra 50hp isn't realistic? My car used to get 7ish mpg...can't see a mild 454 being much worse lol Posted via Mobile Device |

My suggestion is simply to get a Ebay account, and start searching. Careful, it gets addictive. I know online ordering isn't for everyone, and I love supporting the Mom&Pop, but you gotta eat too... Yeah, the factory is a 300HP output. I can't see the intake/carb helping. The MPI setups were pretty good already. The headers will help, but 50HP? Eh, IDK. 7? My lord! My guess without a OD trans, and the 4.10s will give you 10-ish. I wouldn't hope for more. The 350 can give you in the 14 range as long as you keep the RPM's in a happy range, and don't drag race at every stop light. I gotta ask. Whats going on with your T/A? you can't hint at it like that and not post details...

Re: New teritory for me. Need some help :(
Ya it's kinda ****ty being in a small town away from the good prices and also being 16-18hours north of the US boarder sure doesn't help when 300 buck order comes with 75 bucks worth of UPS duty and brokerage (shipping was in the 300 bucks)
pricing out headers for example, for basic LS1 leaky ass pacesetter headers (200-ish bills) was going to cost 140 shipping and the ypipe was 150 with 135 in shipping... All through Jegs. (couldn't imagine the brokerage and duty on those!!) Same goes with wreckers here...10years or newer. Otherwise it's pretty much sold to other places for newer units... Not enough old school wreckers and the ones who do have the parts you need expect their weight in gold. (100 bucks for an old bench seat and I hav to Wade in waste deep snow, pry the mangled doors open and remove it) My car wasn't extreme by anymeens, but the streets need to be redone as there's too much of a jam in traffic all the time. (25 minutes to go 15 blocks in a small city, yet in Edmonton you can go 20 miles in 15minutes...) most of the time I was just getting into drive (3rd) when idhave to slow down again... TR224 cam, 3.73's, ported heads, 3200 stall, ported MAF, headers/ypipe and a decent scratch tune. Best time of 12.4 @ 110mph. 5500 calcuclated altitude. 155mph no prob, but I was too chicken to go farther a I was already at 580rpm (6200 shift point and 6400 limiter) I just figured since I already had a BBC sitting here with 150 more torque than what I have now, why not put it to use? The keg intakes were constrictive past 3500 or 4k But I don't plan on going beyond 5k myself...just guessing at hp gains too lol Posted via Mobile Device |

You are talking Canadian Dollars, right? :-) I know lots of people don't include the difference.
