Re: First Time On The Board
I have tried to move this over to the blazer builds section but I can't figure out how. I guess being my first post I can get away with being in the wrong area! If anybody knows how, let me know.

Re: First Time On The Board
Some interior pictures. The back seat was very nice, just needed to replace the arm rests. The front was another story. Everything but the console needs replaced. We did get lucky with the tilt column though. Anybody ever hear of white front seats and a black rear seat? I am just assuming the front seats were redone in white at some time due to the black console.

Re: First Time On The Board
Along comes a 1972 parts blazer with a perfect rear hatch I might add! Found this one for $800. I figure the hatch and the metal I need are way over that. Again...sorry for all the pics. We'll be caught up soon.

Re: First Time On The Board
Cut out part of the floor on the drivers and the passengers side and replaced the inner and outer rockers on both sides. They weren't too bad but I figured this was the time to do it. We also fixed the inner foot wells. We got all our patch panels through LMC.

Re: First Time On The Board
Found a finger sized rust hole in the right side quarter so we cut the section out and put in a new panel. We made the weld in the area that will be under the woodgrain moldings just to be safe. There was also some damage to the right side tail light.

Re: First Time On The Board
I personally don't care for speakers in the doors, so I had to have one of the doors filled in. The tailgate was in great shape and the rest of the body just had very minor dents.

Re: First Time On The Board
We decided to go with the original color which was medium red. We bought all the original woodgrain trim at the Portland swap meet so it should look nice once we get it all put back together.

Re: First Time On The Board
Looks great!
Funny your right rear lower long gouge mark is very similar to mine. Biggest problem I'm having is deciding whether or not to pretty up the body. Most of my paint is original, and since Dad can still name where each and every dent/scratch/scuff/bend/etc is from, I'm having a tought tim deciding whether those memories should be taken away from visibility and have a new looking truck again (that I'd be hesitant to use as a truck), or to just leave it as-is. Your paint pic progress is amazing, truck looks pretty solid before you started. Killer deal on the parts truck as well. Erik |

Re: First Time On The Board
Thanks Eric! A friend of mine had the same situation as you with a truck he got from his dad that his dad had had for years and years. Original paint and hardly any dents. He eventually ended up painting it and adding some accessories as well. He decided to do it because it was something his dad would never have paid to have done. He wanted his dad to see what it would look like all fixed up. His dad ended up loving it. Ours had original paint as well, but it just had a few to many cosmetic things in the body for us to live with.

Re: First Time On The Board
You've done a lot of work already!
It's my first time on the board as well! I've had my '71 Jimmy for 20 years and have worn it out. Time to fix'er up. I didn't know there were different kinds of hardtops. Mine, I think its a double shell, weighs a ton, and is thrashed! It is split up the front and the rear door has broken in two. Can they be fixed? or just replaced? I looked at LMR and Eckler's and didn't see any. So tell me about the single shell - I'm guessing about half the weight? Doran |

Re: First Time On The Board
The single wall is nice and yes it is a lot lighter. I think I'm correct in saying that it is the only top that came with a couple of interior lights as the double wall top did not. If your bolts go in and down from the top than its a single wall top. If your bolts go in and up from the bottom than its a double wall top. There are some great threads of guys doing amazing work fixing their tops on here. Guys have fixed things I would have thrown away. Its pretty impressive. I know brothers has started carrying a hatch for these tops and it runs about $500. To my knowledge no one is remanufacturing these tops.

Re: First Time On The Board
Got "Old Blue" running! Am I the only one who thinks parts trucks should run? It sat for 10 years before I got it. It sprung fuel leaks everywhere from the tank to the carb! I ended up having to tear down the carb and replace some gaskets and the accelerator pump. Thanks to my dads advice. Its funny how he can still fix my trucks from five hours away! But now its mobile. OLD BLUE LIVES!!
