Smile Re: Did any body else have a " what did i get into " moment

well I'm in the4 same boat but i'm glade i did it when houses and every one had money and when the credit card's allowed me to get a credit line on my personal account of $22,000 man i had fun.See i come from a long line of old hot rodders and they always told me what to look for in a truck.

When you go look at a car or a truck take a Jack and stands and a creeper any signs of cancer in the floor leave it alone. But if you can steel it then you can buy it.I never bough a truck or a suburban with cancer in the floor a little on the sides mabey But body work means money time and a lot of work.

Find the truck with out that one less problem I have 1 suburban with the drivers side rockker that has cancer in it No where else.My 1968 long horn has bondo in the drivers door and fender same side No cancer in cab or any where else and the other 9 trucks i own from 1964--72 None of them have floor issues or roof issues just dents and dings.

Getting back to my 22K story I had the front end done all the busing done cost me 500.00 installed frame was still coated with that under coating so i just touched it up.

Now i 'm a big time wire hound M&H done me well Payed 600.00 for the hole harness for my 1972 3/4 ton 5 year ago all new rubber and all new window regulators and locks at into debt up to $9500.00 i have 2 other trucks i had bought all the wiring for them too an all the cab parts I was up to 17,000 and had enough parts to put 3 trucks back to gather less sheet metal not needed.I got sick with namona and bronchitis old most died.Had to file a chapter 7 they got the boat that was 9000.00 and the 2 Sea doos 3000.00 and and one small Box of macco tools 4000.00 and they where happy Me I got most of that stuff when i had my clean up business and towing business None of it i payed for But its what i listed on my assets and they put a assigned valve to it all of it added up to 15,000 in there book and for gave the rest.so now i have all these parts in there packages and working slowly on my trucks

Re: Did any body else have a " what did i get into " moment

I had this

traded it for this

Most I can tell think the buick was way cooler and I think it was very unique and different but in the end I am alot happier with an old beater chevy. I don't have to worry about finding parts for this truck now. The buick was a different story and a headache.

Ever opened the door of a 67 firebird and saw nothing but a crossmember and your dirty garage floor???

Trucks are EASY! Aside from the cab floor you can bolt on a new panel ANYWHERE. Floors, trunk floors, and quarters are scary

Re: Did any body else have a " what did i get into " moment

I am in the middle of a "what did I get myself into" now. Here are some pictures from earlier today:

After the first set of cuts:

After I cut the step and got the crossmember out of the way:

Now tomorrow hopefully I can cut the step on the other half of the frame and start getting it back together.

Re: Did any body else have a " what did i get into " moment

Man, this sounds familiar...I got my truck somewhere around the end of 2007...before I deployed to Iraq, I drove her everyday...love it!!!Got back late 2008 and started driving her again...a few weeks later i blew the left bank head gasket...decided I would replace that real quick and be back on the road again...it's been three years since that day, and I am still putting her back togather...What was I thinking, when i thought I could do all I planned to do her in in a quicj turn around...Soon I hope she will be done though!!! Good luck man and I feel your pain!!!

Re: Did any body else have a " what did i get into " moment

Yes i had one of those moments. Brought this truck home on a sunday, backed it into the garage and then within two weeks it looked like this... "What was i thinking, doing this to a running and driving truck??!"

Re: Did any body else have a " what did i get into " moment

Yep, just a few nights ago I was pulling out the old floor mat and decided to "clean up" those scabs on the floor. Now the interior is completly gone and new panels are on the way. hahahahaha

Its not too bad, there are just a ton of rivets to drill out. You have to get the rear end, trailing arms, trailing arm mounts, shock crossmember, panhard mount, and a few other misc parts. If I was just tearing down and putting it back together I could have done it in a day or two, its all the other stuff I'm doing that is taking time....and the weather. If you want more info on the swap check out my build thread.
