Re: I hate craigs list

You've learned a valuable lesson: When you find a good deal, run over with the cash and close. Don't wait til Saturday.

I learned the same thing in Feb when the ice storm blew in and missed an inner and outer grill for $25

Being mad at CL because of a seller is like kicking the dog when you're mad at the wife.

I just ran into the same type of deal. Guy had a pretty nice '72 LWB pickup I went and looked at. He was asking $3500 and had an offer of $2900. He wasn't around when I got there so I looked at the ouside, underneath and under the hood and left. It had tinted windows so I couldn't see inside very well. I called to set up a time to go over and look at the interior and floor boards and take a few pictures to post up here. He said someone had called and told him it was worth $5000 and that he could get $2000 out of the bed, so he was raising the price to $5000. I told him no thanks, but good luck. He said he would keep my number. If he calls back I am going to offer him $2500...

Re: I hate craigs list

you win some, you lose some. I always make sure to have cash in hand and ready to buy on the spot. i would have driven and picked those up the same day and not waited 3 days, especially since that was a smokin deal.

Re: I hate craigs list

beat the highest bid then. u wait u loose. when i find a good deal and they are too busy that day i tell them im comming right now and im paying asking price. If they need time to dig it out say your dropping off a deposit or paying now!!! get locked in. u need to be on top of that stuff.
When i bought my jimmy that was not for sale i did one thing that nobody else did, I made an offer!!! his eyes lit up and he said someone else had dibs but they never talked price. i offered him another 100 to screw the guy on his dibs and he said if the guy really wanted it he should have made an offer.
Ive had other blazer/jimmy owners tell me dont sell it for less than $12000. I paid $2000

Re: I hate craigs list

I shake my head when some folks say that anyone would back out of a deal to get that kind of money.
Not this guy...no way I'm putting the dollar before my honour, never. I feel bad for anyone so desperate for cash they don't care about being a man.

A deal that good i would NOT have waited to get. I would have drove my but right over there and got them as soon as i talked to him.

Shame on him for weaseling out of a deal. But shame on you for not rushing over there to get them.

Re: I hate craigs list

lol
I find it funny that so many will say that after he found out he could easily get 400-900 more each, he should've just said bla I don't need that cash..and let them go for 600.oo
also lol at the ones that say not me I got "honor" and I'm a man..
well sorry welcome to the real world where money talks suckers walk, the one cry'n didn't put down a dep. on them.. so..
I used to hold stuff for the first guy that said they want them and they are sold,
to most it's a delay tactic, as all the other callers have moved on and your ad is buried, and now want it for less than the listing hoping you'll cave and not want to list it again..
I sat on a 454 because of guys that say, Oh,ya I'll take it, hold it for me,
sorry now, first one that shows with cash ,wins.. and I have them all come at the same time, the one that wants it will pull the cash out first.. if one guy is gonna offer more than I post a part for, why would I or anyone say "no thanks, I'll take less" it's an ad, it's not selling to a buddy, buddies get breaks, people calling from an ad don't..
I looked at a house that was listed at 134k, at the open house it was bid up to 179k
I guess some here would say the seller should've only took the 134k cause lets face it, thats all they where asking for..
and talk away from the extra money like ,some think the door seller should have..
if he really just wanted them gone they'd have been listed for free..
moral to story,
ya snooze ya loose..
and after being a seller placing ads, my take is no one has "dibs" untill a dep. has changed hands.. been burnt to many times,
cause lets face it, when you're forced to relist it, everyone that calls the 2nd time wants it for even less..
craigs list buyers know this and sadly, trusting a persons word, and I've tried, doesn't work in todays world.. 99% of the time, and is why I try to buy from hobby boards, like this one as you're less likely to get fooled, like on C/L.

Re: I hate craigs list

I had a Tweaker, E-Mail me at 1:30AM in the morming, to come buy a $75.00 TV set I had put on CL.
I told him that it was 1:30am in the morning and that I had 3 people in front of him. If he was still interested after that, I would email him as to whether it was still avaliable.
He said thanks...but no thanks.
A week later, no one bought it and I sent it to my M-I-L for free.

Re: I hate craigs list

I tried to call that guy on the doors too, never returned my calls... glad he didn't now, if I drove over 2 hours and he pulled that then I wouldn't have been happy....

I've seen the doors go for 800-900 each, that's the highest around here...

I bought an NOS burb door for $350 and will stick with it.

Re: I hate craigs list

His number is still on the ad, mean folks would sign him up for telemarketers... not saying that I condone that behavior but...

I just emailed him to offer $2,500... shall we up his bidding war?

What's even better is that when he originally posted the ad, he wanted $25.00 for them.

Re: I hate craigs list

You know if he was going to relist them, then all the people with an opinion of how much they are worth or how much they would pay for them, are never going to buy them. Cash in hand is better than BS any day. Thats Craigslist for you.

Re: I hate craigs list

I would have to go with, "a mans word is not what it used to be" If he made a deal stick with it. I just sold a set of Chevy wheels and tires off my 2006 Chevy 2500. Took them off years ago an they just sat in the garage with new tires. Decided I want them out, put on Craigslist for $200.00, 10 minutes later someone said they wanted them. I told him they were his, he told me he would not be able to pick them up for a few days, I said no problem. As soon as I got of the phone someone else called, I told him they were sold, He asked if a deposit was put down and that he would pay $300 and pick up now. I said no they were sold. Long story short I believe a man should stick to his word. If he wanted more he should have listed for more.

Re: I hate craigs list

I don't hold anything for anybody... period. Not even with a "deposit". Cuz the minute you "hold" something for someone. Some cat will come along with more cash in hand. Enough cash in hand to actually buy the item talks very loudly.

Re: I hate craigs list

I post alot of stuff on different websites and craigslist. I always Put "NO SHIPPING" and they ask for stuff but I tell them I wont ship. They get pissed at me. HAHAHA I am not trying to be rude at all but I just don't deal with that stuff. If they would read it the first time they wouldn't waste their own time. I like dealing with people in trades face to face. BOTTOM LINE PLAIN and SIMPLE. BUT they hate me...

couple of nice guys did that for me in dec. 09 i drove 2 hr. to look at a swb bed for $600 said i will take i and could come back in a week. I didn't leave any money just my word. I came back in a week and got it he told me that a guy was offering money for it (the guy asked him if i gave any money down) he said no, but its sold to me so he turned the other guy away. I made a couple friends in the process that was honest and kept there word hard to find in this world now.

Re: I hate craigs list

After a week or two and all the flakes have not showed up to buy his doors he may contact you and say he'll take the the 600.00 he had em listed for. At that point I would say " While you were thinking, I was thinking and they are only worth 500.00 to me ". I've been on the planet long enough to know there is always another deal ( and sometimes better than the original one ) down the road
