I've been looking a bit for a hood ornament for mine and 78 Chevyrado was able to turn me on to the pictures below (Thanks 78 Chevyrado). Looking at whats left on your hood it seems to resemble the base of the ornament in the second picture.

Wow, it sure looked like an oval hole with a rubber gasket to me, I thought maybe it was a cold air intake or something. Nice truck.

I second the Convoy/Death Proof Duck idea. Here are some pics of a '70 C10 with it for sale in Tampa. Thinking of getting flat black on for my stepside.
