Underbed gas tank very slow to fill. Any ideas for venting, etc?

Update:
Changing the angle of the fill line did make a big difference. The next time I filled the truck, which was last week, I was able to insert the fuel nozzle normally and fill the tank with the nozzle on the lowest flow setting. I've never been able to do that before without gas spilling out the inlet.

I tried filling it at full speed but, no surprise, it blew gas back out the inlet. The only consideration about filling on the low setting is when the tank got full it didn't automatically shut off the nozzle and gas blew all over everything. I'll simply have to pay attention to the tank when it's getting close to full and turn it off manually.

Has anyone ever solved this?

I have a new steel blazer tank, filler on the fender like the one posted.

I had a vent on the line on the pass side of tank with one of thes K&N filters. If I got close to half a tank it would push gas out the filter.

I capped it, and ran the vent from the 1/2' hole near the filler hole up to thwe top of the bed with the filter, ,now if I get close to a half tank it pushes gas back out the filler.

I can not get more than 10 gallons in this tank, even with me barely squeezing the gas pump trigger.

Gets pretty old to have to keep stopping for gas with this being my daily driver.


My filler hose is a 1 1/4" hose from CCP, nice big bend.

I looked at your post. Similer to how I have mine vented, only mine has a K&N filter. Mine is higher than the filler as well.

Where is yours connected on the tank? Mine is connected to the 1/2" nipple closest to the filler neck now, and it is not helping. I can not get more than 1/2 full tank.

From looking at the photos you posted I'd suggest taking a look at the brass fitting collection you have connecting the hose to the tank and seeing if you might be creating a restriction there for the venting air. Sometimes when a guy starts adding several fittings together he gets one or two with too small an orifice that causes a restriction.

This is a great discussion for me as I am getting ready to put the tank under the bed on my longbed so I can get the camper all the way up to the front of the bed where the 35 gallon stainless tank takes up 8 inches of the bed now.

I don't have any fittingson mine. I have a 1 1/4" hose from the tank to the cap in the fender, and 1/2" hose from the nipple closest to the filler up to the top of the bed with a k&n filter on top.

No elbows, no reducers, just straight hose.

One closest to filler neck connects to vent tube on filler. Motorcycle style vent tube connected to vent line on opposite side of tank. You need both vents.
