Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

My wielder looks nothing like that! I was wondering about the frame rails because I had to notch mine also. I didn't go the extra step and box them in. I hope i don't discover this short cut hard way. When I get mine together ( If ever!) maybe we might cross paths in Florida sometime.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

I used these mounts and I think I had to grind about 1/16 of an inch just for safety on the headers. Just the right side the left side had no issues at all. I only grinded the right side because it was real clost to the header. I did have to knotch the frame for the mounts though.

I'm going to use the same tubular engine perches as you, but not sure of the motor mounts what did you use.
Thanks

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

mine's mounted using triangle universal motor mounts, had to cut out small chips from the frame to clear the headers

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

What I do with the frame, is just trim the top flange back to give clearance for the headers and motor mounts. I use the '68-'87 frames as a template. The big blocks were available in the trucks beginning in '68. For motor mounts I used the '73 and up clamshell style mounts with custom built frame brackets.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

Chevy Fleetside i got the same mounts as you.. i mounted mine in the forward holes and i got all kinds of clearance for the firewall and im gonna clearance one part of the frame because there is only about a 1/2 inch gap on 1 tube of the header on the passenger side.. btw the headers are doug thorley tri Y headers..
here is the motor mount kit i got http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

here are some pics of a test fit.. i got it pulled back out for a rebuild

The perches came with Car Style motor mounts. The only reason I used the tubular ones besides the later model clamshell ones, is just the way they look. I didn't want that later model mount as I thought it would not look good. Just my opiniion.
