Re: taking two cabs to make one good cab

Well the frame and front crossmember has now had to two coats of POR-15 the two cabs are off the the cab guy (the two that are pictured in earlier post). I hope to document that as it goes thru and keep you posted. I am currently cleaning up the running gear before I mount all that back on the frame. Pics to come soon on the progress.

Re: taking two cabs to make one good cab

Dropped my two cabs off at the body guys house and he is really getting this done. It is starting to look like I will have a very nice rust free cab to put back on my frame. I have to say I am very impressed with Bob Millons work so far. But the picture is my two cabs almost combined into one cab and it took him less than two days to get this done to this point.

Just got my first coat of primer on the pieced together cab today. Now go thru and fix a few spots here and there and get ready for the second coat.

First coat of primer. Got a few spots to touch up here and there but I should have a nice solid cab when I get done.

Looking at your pics I was thinking, just look for another cab, then you have it now primed and lookng good. Great job.

Re: taking two cabs to make one good cab

Well vdog I did look at trying to find another cab I bet I looked at 10 cabs and drove in total 500 or more miles to view these cabs and none were in good enough shape that they did not take cab corners, rocker panels, some floor pan work. So for the time and effort I was going to put in these cabs plus the price to buy them I might as well do this to the cabs I already had.

Very nice work. I now regret not keeping my parts truck cab. I would have not even thought of doing that much grafting.

The cab is looking really nice. I need and am planning to do this to my 1968 LWB Stepside. I will use this thread as a tool to assist me in my cab repair. Awesome thread!!!

Re: taking two cabs to make one good cab

It has been awhile since my last post and not much to report but I do have most the bottom part of the cab wired wheeled and ready for a good coat or POR-15 though. That is a job that is not alot of fun and I think one of the reasons it is taking so long. I really don't like doing it and not sure I will like laying on my back to put the POR-15 to it either as that stuff sticks to skin really good. I think I will use a full face shield when I do start that part though. I did just get a great deal from Craigs list on a reman-ed powers steering box and steering arm though, new for 125 so I pretty happy with that one.

Interesting, so your not going to leave the bottom of the cab white? Is that so the floor wont rust from the bottom?

Re: taking two cabs to make one good cab

Well the inside of the floor cab will be left white I am taking of the old original undercoating from the underside of the cab so I can put a good coat of the
Por-15 as a rust preventive. It most likely would had been a lot easier to do before I had to two cabs married into one. As that way I could had just turned the cab on the old rusted out firewall I was replacing and wire wheeled sitting in a chair instead of like now where I lying on my back and hold the grinder up over my head, but live and learn the hard way I guess. So if you do the same thing to yours make plans as it will be lots easier than a after thought.

Re: taking two cabs to make one good cab

Got questions on this LMC stainless steel brake line set. Where the two line coming in from each wheel it seems I have a tab on the rearend that look like the rubber brake line should go thru and you secure with a c clip push on it to hold it in place. The brake line that took off the truck has the rubber line that is part of the t where the two lines from each wheel connect into. The two pictures are one of the two lines and the tab on the rearend and the other is from the old brake line and l shape bracket the was bolted to as some spot. So my question is I am not sure how I should try and put this back together, should I just get the same type of rubber hose even though I don't see where it is suppose to bolt to so I get the two line to connect to it or should I get a different rubber hos and secure to the tab on the rearend and then get a seperate t blad to finish it off with? I hope the pictures will help show what I trying to say and ask about.
The other picture is one of my now complete frame and running gear

Re: taking two cabs to make one good cab

Well I can't believe I got no responce from anyone how these brakes line may hook up on rearend housing. Well perhaps it is the way I framed my questions andy way I just finished my rebuild of my clutch and brake pedal housing. Was going to paint the brake and clutch pedal but I thought it would not take much to get bumbed or kicked and for the paint to start looking pretty bad. I found a guy really close the powerd coats and got the the two done for a 20 dollar bill. Thought that was a pretty good price.

Sorry Twillie, I actually have that same opening on my rearend, its the junction that brings the brake fluid to the rear brakes. I did mine years ago and I think I posted it. Let me look.
