Re: New shop truck project...

Dont look now packrat42, but if you actually own the truck that is your avatar, somebody has already "destroyed" it with paint.

I would have to agree with you too. I just couldn't live with the rust and patina. Me I would just paint and get rid of the 50 years of rust before the truck is gone, but then again its the owners decision on what to do with his own truck.

To the OP, your truck looks great! Whatever you do to your truck keep us updated!

Re: New shop truck project...

Hey guys, been awhile and I'm sorry I haven't been updating...I got consumed with a build my shop was doing and my personal truck got put on the back burner. I'm gonna get going on it this weekend and see what I can accomplish in the short time before cruising starts! Thank you all for asking about it...it inspired me to not put it off any more!

Re: New shop truck project...

New question of the day guys...I pressed on the clutch pedal today and it went right to the floor without me even trying really. Now I freely admit that I am not a mechanic, I can make them look pretty (I'm a painter at a hot rod shop) but aside from routine maintenance and some minor tinkering I am lost...anyone know what I would be dealing with here?

Re: New shop truck project...

Haha buddy, I honestly don't know...it would be whatever came stock in a 1960 Apache. From my limited knowledge I believe it is a hydraulic clutch so I'm guessing I should check the hydraulic fluid...

I gotta say, while it's possible to have "too much" patina - my personal opinion is this sweet ol truck isn't even close to that. Yes, the hood isn't "rusting", it's "rusted" - but it looks "right". There's nothing wrong with restoring a truck, but there is something to be said for the "it's only original once" approach as well. Me, I like both approaches. But also, I feel a resto has to be done pretty darn well to warrant getting ride of original paint and "heavy" patina. I guess what I'm saying is this - if you completely restore this gorgeous truck, you'll have a gem. If you do nothing to it, you HAVE a gem. But, if you put a $500 paint job on it to "restore" it, well, that might be like farting in church. I'm just sayin.

Re: New shop truck project...

I am new to this site and I am slowly learning who different people are and which rides belong to each member....I saw one pic of that forest service truck and thought it was awesome!! Have you got any more? I wanted to do that to mine but my whole family said they would revolt against me..I thought it was an original classic look to it. I am very interested in what this new project will result in also.

Thanks for the interest! If you go to www.andyspinstriping.blogspot.com and search back a little in the pictures I have a bunch of the Forest Service truck build on there. I will post a picture of my idea with this truck in just a little while...

Re: New shop truck project...

So this is the idea with this truck. I'm doing mechanical right now to make it roadworthy then it's on to the fun stuff! I'm going to lower it with drop spindles , paint the original wheels the original blue color and put new tires on it...still thinking about whitewalls but they are just so rediculously priced I might just stick with some black ones. Possible door art "Haddonfield Cemetary"...any Halloween fans will understand this I guess! It's getting a new wood bed kit but other than that I'm keeping the body just as mother nature has painted it.

YES!! I get it!!! (haddonfield!) Cool - you need to put some sort of pumpkin mural (ok, a VERY little one) on the tailgate or something - or maybe arch the Haddonfield up and the Cemetery down - with the mask in the middle... Or the pumpkin... Or Jamie Lee!!! (yowsa). Or - no, I get it, the "subtle" approach - only the true fans will get it!

Looks cool, I like it a lot.

Dude, that truck I got from you is one of my favorite ones I have ever had. It has perfect patina and I hate to do anything to it but that is such a rare truck it just has to be restored!

Re: New shop truck project...

I like the rendering but the truck is already rusted beyond what the rendering shows? the drivers rocker is holed and so is the drivers fender. or do you plan to repair those areas?

put me in the blackwall tire camp too, just my cruddy opinion.
