LOL

I will be going for a Q-Jet as well when money allows. I have HEI, I didn't know that helped.

HEI helps with a number of things, but not so much for fuel economy. All things being equal, I imagine you might get 1/4-1/2mpg from it. It helps efficiency by providing a stronger and longer lasting spark in order to aid complete combustion.

I just put that in there to brag... lol, not that it's much to brag about, as most guys runs some kind of elect ignition.

Re: What is the best mileage anybody has ever got /highway/around town with a carbura

I had a 72 SWB with a ZZ3-350, Q-Jet carb, 700R4, and 3:08 rear and would routinely get above 20 MPG on the highway. The combination was PERFECT! The 700R4 has a lower first gear than a TH350/400 so it was more responsive out of the hole and it makes the engine purr on the highway. The ZZ3 improved my mileage significantly over my original (not worn out) 350 (I was not expecting better mileage). I barely had to press the pedal to get up to speed.

Re: What is the best mileage anybody has ever got /highway/around town with a carbura

in my '68 ( see sig) The best I ever got was 14.6 cruising at 55 on the highway. I usually got less than 10mpg just city driving.

But the 350 is gone and I'm about to finish up my 6.2 diesel/OD swap, hoping for 20+ hwy.

I had the same drivetrain combo when I switched to a TPI 350 and it was a dog on the highway. I can't remember if I got 14 or 16 mpgs on the highway with the 3.08 gears. I do remember I picked up 2 mpgs switching to 3.73s. I never was impressed with the TPI engine......maybe mine was week.

I hope I can get about the same in my 69. Same set up except its a swb (now ) so a little less weight and its lowered, so a little less wind resistance. I haven't checked the mileage since I really started driving it more.

Yes thats what I meant but it was more because,
it was out on MY "Comfort Zone".
My 72 isn't a Daily Driver and I've got it insured for $16K "Agreed Value", after I learned that my Farmers Policy would only pay me approx $7K if my Truck was Totaled, even though I had Much More Invested in it.

Also, just in keeping with this Thread, I'm running a late model 94 350 with 3:73 Gears and a Turbo 350, Edelbrock 4 bbl Crb and 15" Wheels.
I get around 10-12 MPG around Town.
On the Freeway "Fuhget About It". I'm running 2200 RPMS at 60 MPH.

Re: What is the best mileage anybody has ever got /highway/around town with a carbura

My '69 C/10 was appraised at $30K, so I got full coverage on it...I was surprised it was only an extra $15/month compared to PLPD, but considering ive been in 2 accidents with it, I figured what the hell, why not...lol...1st time was a deer on the highway 3 years ago, 2nd time was a DUI that ran a red light and t-boned me coming home from a show n shine 2 years ago.

HMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe I should check how much adding full coverage would be. To me it is priceless, to most of the world its worth its weight in scrap metal.
