Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
Both of my trucks have the stock wheels on them and they will stay that way, of course my trucks will stay mostly stock.
If I was going to do a modified truck and interior I would go with an after market smaller wheel.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
I prefer the 67/68 wheels. To me the thinner spokes, and round horn button look classier. I bought my wheel online, and it turned out to be an 18" wheel from a medium duty truck. The stock steering wheels were an inch smaller. It's fine though. I fit, and it gives me a better mechanical advantage on my manual steering

I had a 69 C20 w/ manual steering for a long time so I'm partial to the stock wheels...

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
For me I love the design, just an inch or 2 too big for my taste. I saw that guy on TV Moog or something cut the ring off, shave everything two inches then bend a new outer ring - THAT would be my favorite steering wheel. (I'm talking 67-68 wheels)

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
I think you mean Foose. I saw him do one. Classic looks but in a more modern size. Unfortunately Foose isn't here to do mine.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
Yes, that is it, Foose. maybe you could do everything yourself but bend the ring and just have a metal shop do that. They have steering wheel repair kits bu the usuals materials and sanding would seem to be enough.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
I have the stock wheel in mine, and its a daily driver. Definitely like the 67-68 wheel better. The huge wheel is just part of the total package that makes driving an old truck cool.

Here is a link to someone who "resized" a 68 steering wheel on this website:

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
There ya go, that is what I am going to do in Black and then I am going to put a thin strip of padding around it and then have a rawhide leather cover tightly sewn over it.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
Stock all the way..every old vehicle I've had or will have, I keep the stock interior. I love the old interiors just how they came from factory. I think the stock wheels are pimp compared to now a day steering wheels lol

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
I wouldn't say I like the size of the stock, but they look good so it's staying.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
The stock steering wheels although big look great and fit our trucks well. I, have a repro (black) wheel in my 70 stepper and to me anyway it just looks good. cheers, Pat

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
I've got a 70, but I much prefer the 67-68 wheels. So I found a couple of good ones, painted one of them and put it in along with a shiny horn button.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
I prefer the 67-68 wheel, but I do wish someone made one about 1.5 inches smaller in diameter. Before I added p/s, though the big wheel was mandatory, IMO.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
back in 60's and 70's the big wheels were easy to drive with your elbows so you could roll a smoke while goin down the road without the danger of stoping to do it

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
Wow! Almost every one here likes the stock wheel. I too like the look. I guess I'll have to drive it for a while, then decide.
Are the 67-68 wheels the same diameter as the later ones? |

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
I just wish they'd repop the Sandalwood color stock wheel. Every Sandalwood colored wheel I've seen is like the one in the picture above, including mine. The plastic disintegrates. I'd love to go back in with a nice stock sandalwood steering wheel.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
I like trucks, therefore I like truck steering wheels. I actually remove other wheels to put back the original wheels. When I do use something different it's because I'm customizing the truck, not because of the size of the wheel. Then,I use GM car or 88-93 truck sport wheels. I feel aftermarket steering wheels cheapen the look.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?
I was thinking Foose made a stock wheel smaller on a truck build he did on Overhauling.
