Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

Edit: Ok,after posting that picture I see these mirrors were installed incorrectly. Guess I'll have to drill another set of holes and fill another set . My truck has had the cab swapped from a 1/2t,so the mirrors were put onto those doors by whoever did all that. The driver door that got damaged is rust free! I just can't get over how stupid that was ()

It's always that way!

I know I've seen a truck with the "flyswatter" mirrors somewhere. Probably in a junkyard in the past. If I ever find a pair, I'm getting them to just keep with the truck. (unless they grow on me and I install them) I'll save my brackets too.

I could keep the type that was on it, they look good. Those look like the ones my C20 had when I got it. (I switched to the sport type on that one)

My edit button is gone too. ?

Any chance the mirrors on your wrecker are from an 80's Ford truck? I've seen that type somewhere before too.

Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

The mirrors that are on it now could be Ford or aftermarket. You see them a lot as generic aftermarket but are based on the ford mirror.

Hey Bob I found a pair of the fly-swatter mirrors, the mirror glass was broke and the guy still wanted $125.00 for them

Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

Ya know, these mirrors are growing on me a bit. But not for $125 dollars.

I'll make my decision when I actually see them in person.

Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

You need the senior west coasts. They were available and I guarantee Vic wished he had 'em

Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

Well, I'm learning that finding these standard long arm mirrors is almost impossible! I haven't found any yet and I've been actively searching all over the place. Standard mirrors and they are like digging for gold.

Does anyone here own a pair of these "fly swatter" mirrors? I need the length of both arms (in case they are different from side to side) Also what size mirror heads did these have? I guess the angle of the arms would be helpful too.

I'm going to be installing new door skins soon and I'm commited to going with this style no matter how long it takes to locate them. (yep, they grew on me) I'll be installing the backing plates which I have and putting the holes in the skin prior to paint. I'm thinking I will "build" a set of these to get by for now. Can't be that hard but I would like the correct lengths if anyone can help.

Thanks

Yes, Joesjunk got it right! Those were the standard mirrors on your truck. Here is another shot with these mirrors on a dual wheel C 30. Good Chevy truck trivia! This will help keep history alive!

Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

Thanks for the great pics! I didn't realize it was 2 brackets. Now I just wish I could locate a decent set.

I'll have to make something up temporarily as I want to put the correct holes in the door skin.

And the search goes on...

That would be AWESOME!!! I'll have to put you in my will or something. I have had no luck finding anything so far.

Congrats on the new toy if you get it.

Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

These came off a 69' C-60. Mirror heads have been changed. Originals have an embossed/ raised oval that ran the length of the mirror.

Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

Those aren't the flyswater mirrors. It would be a single long arm with a rectangular mirror.

Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

Bob the deal isn't made yet. I want the truck but the guy is a bit high on the price, I made him a offer and he said he would think about it. so I'll have to wait and see. If I get it I'll give em to ya. (don't want "flyswatters" on my truck) LOL ... The truck is a 71 C30 with a UGLY flatbed on it. I have bought a complete Holmes 440 wrecker bed that I will put on it. not being quite the purist you are I am going to put the truck style mirrors on it. speaking of wreckers... please bring the build page up to date, would like to see what else you have gotten done. Re: 1 ton cab & chassis questions

I have the info and pictures almost ready for an update, just need a little more time. I've stopped work on the wrecker lately as I had to get back to the full floor replacement on my 63 Impala. I think I need to hire a helper! If I ever hit the big lottery, I'm hiring a personal assistant!

Hope to update very soon on the wrecker thread.
