Re: Project: 72C10 "Clear Blue Sky"

The entire cab was taken to bare metal using media blasting and a DA. This was a really long process, but worth it in the long run. I didnt have the cash to have it media blasted, so just did it myself. I sprayed the cab in expoxy, once all was clean,, now onto both fenders....

Re: Project: 72C10 "Clear Blue Sky"

My thread is falling behind, no comments, I need to keep this thing updated. Others seem to be moving right along, why does everything take twice as long as you think it will??? Ha..Starting to work on filler and getting it as smooth as I can to get some primer surfacer on it...I was not going to smooth out the jams at first, then I said, well if I just fill/smooth out this part , maybe a little here,,and 8 hours later it all looks much better.

Re: Project: 72C10 "Clear Blue Sky"

Man, that's some serious cab repair you took on, nice work!
Fixin to tear my '70 down to the frame and will need a blaster/powdercoater. Who did you use? Cost? Recommendations? Thanks!

I used Quality Product Finishing, on Fairbanks N. Houston. IIRC is was about $700 to get everything done for the frame. I also got quotes from Allied Powdercoating and Precision Powder coating. It turned out sharp, and was worth it. Good luck on your project!

Fenders being taken down to metal, also need some rust repair on the lower cups. Also some more finishing on the cab corners. Thanks for looking.

Re: Project: 72C10 "Clear Blue Sky"

Picked up a sweet pair of doors, they had zero rust damage, just some holes where the camper mirrors were. Glass and vent windows are good too, Hindge area's were perfect. Nice to have something w/o rust..

Re: Project: 72C10 "Clear Blue Sky"

Few updates, got expoxy sprayed on the doors and core support now, I smoothed out the top of the core support to give it a better look, I think. Also filled a few of the mirror holes on the doors. Not sure what color gonna go on the core support yet, thinking about painting it same as the exterior..thoughts??

All I used on the PS box was rattle can primer and color, I cleaned it well with wax & grease remover. The exterior will be stock, ie; door handles and badges, gas tank will be stock. I want the classic look of these trucks. Texas is great, but's its been HOT and dry!!

Re: Project: 72C10 "Clear Blue Sky"

Thanks for checking, I am about 35 miles from the closest fire. Fires are north and NW of me. You can see and smell the smoke in the air though...Some updates, trying to work out the small spot welds on the inner lip of the fenders, and getting the outsides slick.
