I just went from 3.73's to 3.08's and didn't notice a world of difference. It all depends on what you want. I like the power and the ability to idle down the freeway at 2000 going 75. All while getting 20-23 mpg. Fuel Injection is the only way to cruise.

I like my truck just the way it is. Regardless what I do to change the gearing, carb. whatever, I'm still going to be paying money for gas if I want to keep running a 350 V-8. But when I hit the highway I won't change my 3.07 gearing w/ 31" tires for anything. I can take her up to 80 mph and still have lots of pedal left. I just love a truck with long legs.

I don't know what gears I am running (BTW how do you tell?) but with a 350/350 combo I get about 16 highway MPG. That's with the original stock motor.
