Lost
I bought the tank off ebay it,s list for 1949-1952 chevy car. The tank was a easy install I did have to trim a little off the lower frame rail and flip the rear coss member over. I wish it heald more than 17 gallons that big block will eat that up and ask more. |

I,m using the stock 66 12 bolt housing. The rear brakes are off the 78 the brake backing plates bolt wright up which gives me 2.5 brake shoes as for the axles I bought a new set 5 on 5 to match the front. |

9/5/11 update
I finely finished welding on the bed. The bed mods are LED bed curl lights, stake pockets capped, front bed curl capped, front head board panel welded, plated the sides where the tailgate bolt goes through. Now I'm onto the cab. Back in the 70's, my sister inlaw had a guy install speakers in the cab corners. I finshed one yesterday boy what a PITA. I did a butt weld on the replacement, and I will have to do something different on the other one. Now the story of the missing body man. He worked with me for 30 hrs. and did really good. Then, he started finding excuses not to come. I believe there are issues, so I found a replacement body man and plan on taking the body panels to his shop. He assures me that the truck will be painted by the end of November. Lets keep our fingers crossed. |

update 9/10/11
I got the speaker holes repaired and sent the cab to the sand blaster. I picked up the cab yesterday and found that I have rust repair to do. At the start of my build I made the bold statement that this is a rust free Eastern Oregon truck. Now I need to eat those words and fix the rust. I will post pictures of the rust repair. Today the wife and I are going to End Of The World Rod Run on the WA coast hoping to see some 60ish trucks. Will post pictures later. |

what does your blaster use for sand? Plastic bead, walnut? I know black beauty is to ruff for soft sheet metal, don't ask me how i know either. lol

Did they change the blocks in the later years on BBC's? I notice some fit right in but to get mine back I had to cut the firewall and make it a bit bigger. Mine is an 89 year model. Yes I used short valve covers. Acually the same ones he has..

Gen IV, V nad VI BBC's are all the same physical size. The only difference that I can think of is if you have a tall deck truck block. Those are .400" taller than the passenger car, light truck blocks.

Are you saying the surface finish is rough, or did the blaster warp your sheet metal? I prefer a slightly rough surface finish. That is known as a mechanical etch. It gives the primer a very good surface to grip to.

Yep, I have seen that very same thing happen many times to assumed 'rust free' car and truck bodies. Media blasting definitely uncovers all the hidden little problem areas. But IMO that's a good thing. That way there are not any hidden problems that will show up in your nice paint job later on.

Update 9/24/11
A lot of welding. I have most of the firewall holes welded up, the speaker grill blanked off, the drivers side rusty panels repaired. I cut the LH cab corner out and tried to fit the counterpart corner but this corner doesn't even come close to fitting. So, I ordered a Triplus...I hope it fits better. I still have the RH rust to repair, radio cut out to fix and a whole bunch of under dash screw holes to weld up. I think every family member that drove the truck in the last 47 years mounted a CB or something. Well I better go, today's job is to fix the radio hole. |

I haven't up dated in a month because it's takein me that long to fit the crapy replacement panels. I'm done welding on this thing. Yeserday I changed my mind on what hood I'm going to use. Last spring at the Portland swap meet I bought a very nice 4" fiberglass cowel hood. The hood would change the look of the truck to more of a pro sreet and that's not what I wanted. So I welded the seams on the stock hood and delivered cab and hood to the painter. So by the first of Dec I will post painted pictures. To keep myself moving foward I'm sanding heater, vent and other parts for powder coating. |

The body guy is moving right along on the body work steal looking at the first of Dec to bring her home. I'm waiting on powder coated to start assembling heater. So I deside to strip sand and polish the dash assembly, fender emblems, turn signal bezels and custom cab trim alot of work. |

Those turn signal bezels look like new. How did you strip that clear coating off of them that the factory put on them?? I was told that if you strip that off and polish the aluminum that it will turn white and faded within a few weeks of outdoor exsposure. I know eastwood sells a kit for restoring aluminum emblems.

PDX I'm counting the day's
As for the turn signal bezels, I used Eazy Off oven cleaner, the yellow can... the blue one doesn't work. You have to apply it a few times and than I used a scotch bright pad on it, then washed it off. Then, I sanded using 500, 1200, and 1500 grit paper. Then, I started polishing. The thing that works great is a power ball chucked in the drill press and mothers mag polish. It polished up pretty quick, then a coat of wax. As for them turning white after being in the weather, if they do, since the coating is removed, I will polish them again. My truck is not going to be a daily driver. So, the exposure to weather is going to be at a minimum. I did the same process on the custom cab trim and emblems. |

I know my uncle clear coated some polished peices and the next day the clear was peeling off, I guess it being polished the paint has no grip to stick to.
