Re: 68' Chevy c10
Aghh I see now, that top piece is up past the floor bottom, others will need to chime in, I have never removed a manual shift tranny of this style, not much room for it to move around while taking it out..maybe you could loosen the front cab mounts and tilt the cab back some to give you more room..?

Re: 68' Chevy c10
Thanks again for the help. going to see what happens. if it wont go, I'll just remove the trans. would be easier if I didnt have to do it in the gravel drive, but I will make it happen!

Re: 68' Chevy c10
Here's the latest. got the engine/trans out, and I did have to raise the cab to clear the trans. overall it went pretty smooth. the most trouble came from one bolt when removing the front clip. you guys know what I mean (that last bolt!)
Oh well, all that hard work makes the end result that much sweeter. here's a couple pics.

Re: 68' Chevy c10
Well my 327 is off getting rebuilt. I still have to pull engine/trans #3, and the crossmember from the 85' donor truck. the crossmember in the 68' has one bolt left on each side, so it's ready to come out. Thinking about a one piece driveshaft, not sure though.

Re: 68' Chevy c10
You're making great progress. Keep it up.
In your first post - third picture, you show a huge rear mounted fuel tank. Can you provide some details on what's from & what size (gallons). Is it set up for fuel injection? Thanks. |

Re: 68' Chevy c10
Hey Blue666, Thanks. The tank is an LMC rear mount kit.(basicly a blazer tank) its 21 gal. truck will be carburated. I guess you could use it for fuel injection. If I had to do it again I would use a 60s car tank where the filler is behind license plate. I did'nt find this site soon enough.

Re: 68' Chevy c10
Here's a few more pics. a little progress.
just about everything off the firewall. still have to sand it. fuel tank and seat out. shift hump back from blasting, and painted. I seam sealed the in cab seam. (not sure if that will cause any problems) also made a patch for the fuel fill hole in cab.

pulled engine\trans out of 85' donor this morning. It took more time than the other two. Now I can pull the crosmember tomorrow.

Re: 68' Chevy c10
Ok I swapped crosmembers today.
test fit looks good just one hole to drill on each side and elongate a couple more. Happy I read the swap thread on here.

Re: 68' Chevy c10
well I have the crossmemeber back out so I can do the cleanup, paint, and rebuild. also grabbed the power steering, and brake booster. It looks like the BB wont work without bracket alteration. I knew I would have to modify the armature from brake pedal to booster. not sure but I might need a different year booster. searched for this swap, but couldnt find any answers. the donor is an 85' GMC 1/2 ton. heres a pic of the booster. was also going to use a different master cylinder. Thanks for any info.

Re: 68' Chevy c10
if you're speaking of frame brackets you can use 73-87 motor brackets with the big block. Any truck is fine as they are all the same small or big block for those years but work great for big block for our year trucks.

Re: 68' Chevy c10
my bad
On the brake booster, you can buy the correct bracket and bolt that booster to it, or just modify the lever as you said....but the ideal thing is to get the correct bracket as the angle is wrong if you just modify the arm and pedal pressure will be harder.

Re: 68' Chevy c10
Got my engine back from the machine shop yesterday. now I have to paint it.
before I can do that I have to get that crossmember back in so the truck can be moved. Its the only spot left in the garage I can use. heres a pic of the front frame w/por 15.
