Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Ok here are a few updates after getting some pictures resized. Getting the 51 all torn apart that way we can get the bed off and start whipping it into shape.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Dad sent me a few pictures of all the shiny pieces, so I figured I'd post them and get away from all the rust we have been looking at recently.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Here are a few more of the parts as well as his new compressor and blast cabinet to start working on all of the smaller pieces to get them prepped and ready.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Just a few parts out of the blast cabinet and a couple of pictures with the hood on to give us a little more room to work.

Did the plants come with it? Looks like you already have one in the box, but you might want to spend some time out there and pull the males before it ruins the whole crop!

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
If you are in K C have you looked at Mar-k for a tail gate, I have found them to be a bit better than the off shore ones.
I was just about to ask if you had alinged up the hood and fenders but the last pic showed that progress. Was there a lot of monkey motion going on with tha frame change and cab and core support attachments. Are you going to run a front bumper and valance with the stock grille?

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
If you end up with parts left over on the donor truck, let me know what you'd get rid of.
I get to KC MO a couple times a year, and also have a buddy from there that gets up here a couple times a year, so it wouldn't be too tough for me to snag some parts without shipping, if there is a somewhat patient timeline. Just a thought. Thanx, truck looks awesome ! Well done.... Love it. |

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Headlight rings, Hood Hinges, inner and outter door handles, window cranks, gauges, gasket that goes around filler neck for gas tank, tailgate hinges, tailgate, etc... could probably think of more if you happen to have the factory radio filler panel I could use that too
Need pretty much all of that for my current one (to be driver) soon as my current one is a driver, I'm grabbing another one to start a chop job |

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
So we have just been missing the tailgate in order to get started on mounting the bed to the frame. I've been checking craigslist and dad has been looking everywhere for one as well. Well fortunately I came across one on craigslist that looked too good to be true. I emailed the owner and he said he still had it. So I went and looked today and made the purchase...I think I did pretty well for a brand new tailgate with a couple of dings on the top portion of it all for.......50 bucks.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Thats a tough dent to get out but $50 is a really good price. All you really need to do is get most of the dent out and I think you can do it quickly. Nice find

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Not that you can't find a way to make it work, but that's a 54 and newer tailgate and your bed is a 47-53 bed. That tailgate is too tall for the bed to bolt right on.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
You are correct with this one, we plan on welding the tailgate solid which will allow us to trim the top off the tailgate getting it to the correct height as well as fix the dent problem all in one. We will just have to fab up a new top piece for it.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Trent, how tall and how wide is that gate?
I can't seem to find a good one for my 51 but found one of these for $50 in great shape and was thinking of making it fly at least for now. But I'd like to know it's dimensions before deciding to drive 35 minutes to get it... he said he'd measure and get back to me, but hasn't measured... I've asked twice.... |
