Re: Muffler Question

Move the mufflers futher back with 2.5" pipe and exit passed the rear axle. Unless it's a track truck that will see high RPM's most of it's life, 3" is overkill IMO.

Re: Muffler Question

My .02:

1) i think if could get the muffler(s) as far back as possible this could help quiet things down.

2) If possible "Y" the pipes at the end to have 4, yes four, mufflers at the rear bumper;

Look at what the factory is doing----cadillacs/corvette/camaro and others have the mufflers at the rear bumper with 4 outlets and the engines still crank out 300-400 hp and are still pretty quiet.

Re: Muffler Question

I have a Pontiac G8 with the magnaflow mufflers on the rear of the car. That sound is more of a "Tuner Effect" than I would like. I prefer the mufflers to be in the middle of the car, but the G8 does not really give room for it. From this and from my past experience, one wants the mufflers behind the tranny and the exhaust pipes to the rear for a deep mellow sound. The choice of the muffler design will give you the level of decibels that you want. An "H" pipe or "X" pipe cross-over will give you a smoother sound than if you did not run one. The cross-over will also give you more torque in the lower ends of operation. My daily driver 2011 truck has a Magnaflow 3" single inlet, going to two 2 1/2" duals out and it is a nice rumble when driving. It also opened up the performance on the truck.

1) i think the closer mufflers are to headers the quieter or more mellow the sound is?

2)thats alot of mufflers, i would think that would make more noise due to more exits for noise possibly?

and i believe the factory corvettes caddys etc have computer controlled mufflers with valves, thats right you littaraly hit the loud pedal
