Advice On SBC 350 and T5 Swap

It is not a world class trans , I too found how to identify them , and was hoping , but they started in 93 in the S10's..........

That's what I thought - but wasn't sure. Mine's a 93 and i think i got pretty lucky.
I would think the non-WC would be just fine behind a 6 cyl with no problems though. Is your motor in your 48 hopped up much? (oops - re-read your previous post, I was just assuming you had a 6 in it. What motor do you have in your 48?)

A little update - someone asked for pic of the shifter install for the T5.

- Got the driveshaft shortened at Franklin Truck & Driveline (Victorville, CA - my highest recommendation - great, professional shop)
- Installed the d/s and got the e-brake all tuned up again
- Cut the hole for the shifter - I already had a round one cut where I thought would be the right place, but cut it small on purpose so I could expand it to the minimum required once the trans was in. Good thing I did too - there was VERY little clearance between top of trans shifter mount and the tunnel. Could not install trans with shifter on, but could not attach working from below once the trans was in either - so, access from above was required.
- This is a cracked mat, so may replace it with a new one or perhaps carpet
- Finally(!) removed the old column shifter - no turning back now! Will grind the nub off and weld in a patch when I paint the column and a couple wheels I may try sometime in the future
- Haven't finalized the plan for the boot attachment yet - the shifter mount (not stick) pokes into the cab a bit and my Hurst round boot, although I like it, is kinda small for it - so TBD if I will build a plate with a mounting ring for a zip tie or maybe browse ebay for a semi-truck shifter boot, etc. More to come.

Anyway, here's some pics. Was nice to sit in the truck tonight and row my own. Even if it was still on jackstands....

Tomorrow - fix all the crap I broke in the process of installing the trans! Like the water pump (bumped the fan against the shroud jackin the engine around and busted the pump bearing) and also need to monkey with the drain plug.... Supporting it with a large piece of wood seems to have put a little crease in the most inopportune place, and I sprouted a little leak. Have a new pan from pomona swap meet, but gonna try to make this one work first with a little sealant tape on the drain plug. Wish me luck. Hopefully someday will actually drive this thing. Maybe will do a build thread when I'm all done, I've got bits and pieces of info scattered throughout about 10 different threads for this silly trans. But I'm likin it so far.

By the way, "Glad Press-n-Seal" works great for keeping the grinding bits out of the shifter well!

Yep, she's running just fine. Drive it 3-4 times a week, zero problems with it so far, and I'm happy with the swap.
